Supplies

Step 1: Intro

It is designed for those who enjoy moving things further and learning something. Soldering is not necessary, but we recommend it.

Rocket Lamp is a project whose purpose is to introduce children to the basics of low-current electrical circuits so that they can immediately see the result and have something useful left, such as a lamp for a children's room. We will show you how to 3d print and assemble our Rocket Lamp for children on a 3D printer. We have prepared 3 levels of difficulty.

Beginner Level- Just buy LED Stripe

Advanced Level - this tutorial - Soldering not required, Smart Wall Plug

Master Level - Soldering required, programming in Arduino IDE

Step 2: 3d Printed Parts Overview

Here is a list of all 3d printed parts needed:

Printed on Original Prusa MINI @0.2mm layer:

  • Base_DC.STL - 1h 56m
  • Wing.STL - 4h 23m (all 3 wings)
  • Tower_PrusaMini.stl - 2h 59m
  • Cap.STL - 2h 11m
  • Body_Clear.stl - 8h 14m
  • Body_Stars.STL - 9h 26m
  • Body_Net.STL - 12h 18m

Printed on Original Prusa MK3S@0.2mm layer:

  • Base_DC.STL - 2h 01m
  • Wing.STL - 4h 33m (all 3 wings)
  • Tower.stl - 3h 58m
  • Cap.STL - 2h 17m
  • Body_Clear.stl - 8h 49m
  • Body_Stars.STL - 10h 03m
  • Body_Net.STL - 12h 37m

Printed on Creality Ender 3 Pro @0.2mm layer:

  • Base_DC.STL - 2h 30m
  • Wing.STL - 5h 24m (all 3 wings)
  • Tower.stl - 4h 19m
  • Cap.STL - 2h 42m
  • Body_Clear.stl - 9h 26m
  • Body_Stars.STL - 10h 58m
  • Body_Net.STL - 14h 29m

Step 3: Choose Your Design

Then you can choose the design of the body from:

  • solid
  • net
  • stars

then print it on a 3D printer, and put everything together.

Step 4: Assembly

You will need a DC connector, a DC 5V-12V power adapter, and an RBG LED strip 5V-12V. Because our lamp has no visible button, we have added a Smart socket to this version, which can be controlled by the phone again, and you can remotely turn off the lamp when the child falls asleep without waking him up. In this case, we used a Smart socket from FIBARO. The advantage is also the possibility of connecting this socket to Amazon Alexa if you have this system at home.

  1. You can install the DC connector in our Base_DC.stl, which has a circular hole prepared for commonly sold DC connectors.
  2. If it is larger than the width of the walls in the base, you can cut the plastic with a knife.
  3. Then we recommend fixing it with a hot glue gun.
  4. You simply solder the DC connector to the LED strip or use wago connectors as you can see in the video Advanced Level
  5. Then pass the LED strip through the hole in the tower and fix it.

Step 5: Final Assembly

You are done, enjoy.
