A 3D Printable AEP7 Laser Pistol (Fallout)

A fully 3D printable version of the AEP7 Laser Pistol from fallout 3 and New Vegas. It can be printed in around 30 hours and requires 1kg of material. It requires a lot of support and is challenging to print, but the pay-off is most certainly worth it.

It was painted using acrylic paint and weathered with a small paintbrush and black paint. The yellow tube is a piece of coax cable that I painted with yellow paint. All the decals are printed on ordinary paper, glued to the model, then weathered.

It has a working laser diode (else it wouldn't really be a laser pistol). It has a working trigger, functioning energy cells (in the form of 3 AA batteries) that can be reloaded and a potentiometer connected to the knob on the back.

Could you post a circuit diagram and the specific laser diode you used? Also would you be ok with me making and selling a modified version of these with kickback and sound fx?

No circuit diagram available, sorry. It is no more than a laser, a battery and a switch. If you want to make and sell them that is fine. Just abide by the rules of creative commons.

was able to print all the bits on Printrbot simple metal with a build area of 150x150x150

Have you ever thought about putting the models up on shapeway so those that dont have the money for a 3d printer can buy the parts and build it themselves? I'd be willing to pay for the parts so i can build it myself personally, depending on how much it would cost. My email is [e-mail] if you'd want to discuss that. I'd really like to make one myself but i dont have the money for a 3D printer.

For the cost of printing this at shapeways, you can buy a decent 3D printer. The design is not optimized for SLS printing (the cheapest technique at shapeways) and all walls are way too thick for that. You can try 3Dhubs, or look for a local fablab or hackerspace. There are more 3D printers around you than you think.

I loved your Pip-Boy 3000. Have you (or anyone you know of) has programmed anything in Android to replicate the Pip-Boy 3000? Is it time to invent the PB-4000?

I have no apps for making your smartphone look like a pip-boy, I just used a picture.

Sadly there are two reasons why I don't want to do rifles (at least any time soon).
1. I have a new job and am busy getting adjusted.
2. Rifles are too large to 3D print. It would take kilos of material and 50-80 hours of printing time.

I saw a tall, triangular "Delta" 3D printer on Kickstarter (The Kossel Clear) that appears to print a lot faster than the standard cube-type XYZ printers and it should be a scalable design that allows for a tall machine that a full rifle stock could be made in. Alternatively, the design could incorporate multiple sections that could fit together in a modular approach, or when replicating one-piece stocks, glue the sections together (duh).
