This is an easy step by step tutorial for how to make a guitar headstock-shaped table.

What you will need:

1 metre x 1 metre (40 x 40 inch) chipboard(particle board in UK, paper board US)
Jigsaw
Reference photo
Screws
Drill
Wood Glue
Paint

Step 1: Rough Outline

As you can see in the picture, a rough guidline has bee drawn in.

Now as I'm sure you all noticed, my table is not at all the same proportions as the fender guitar head (Second image)

If you want it to look perfect I suggest you spend alot of time on this stage, it could very well determine whether your table will work or not.

Step 2: Making the Larger Cuts

This is the part where you take your freshly laid out template and use the jigsaw to carve out the table following just outside the line.

Step 3: Sanding and Leg Making

I took quite a bit of time sanding the edges of the table. Chipboard has quite the tendancy to splinter and snag on anything from clothing to skin. It is also important to sand the surface down so that when you paint and varnish, you get a nice smooth finish.

The Legs I made from scraps of the left overboard, drilling and attaching to various pieces of off-cuts. I first measured the sizes and cut them with the jigsaw as well.

Step 4: Glueing and Painting

I marked out the location of the legs in a triangular shape, so as to keep maximum sturdyness.

After that I glued the legs on and left if overnight. The next day I finished off construction by drilling and screwed the legs in, with the screws being on the top of the table.

From there it's smooth sailing. The table was coated twice in a grey primer, followed by marking out the guitar strings and tuners (the round circles) with masking tape. A matt black spray paint was chosen to keep the simple and sophisticated look of the table.

Last but not least the top surface was coated with a matt varnish to seal everything in.
