Introduction: A Super Fancy Top Hat
So you want to be fancy? You want the signature of being fancy, a top hat.
In this instructable I am going to show you how to make a top hat out of materials you can find around your house hold. some of the materials needed are things that can be exchanged for other materials that are similar.
Follow my steps and you can make a top hat of your own
Step 1: Materials Needed
Here is the stuff needed to succeed in creating your top hat.
-Materials Needed
-Scissors
-Card board
-Compass
-Cardboard
-Exactoknife
-Measuring thingy
-Hot Glue Gun
-lots of hot glue sticks I went through 10
-Material or felt (I used an old sweater from a thrift store)
-Some flair
Step 2: Cardboard Fun
Okay super fun starts now.
You need to use your compass and place the pointy end in the middle where you want the circle to be and draw a circle.
After that measure out how long you want the brim to be be as generous as you want but don't make it to small. mine is three-fingers wide which is a good length.
Step 3: Exacting Your Knife
Okay now that you have all of this done you can start cutting out.
Here are some real cool pro tips
PRO TIP
Make sure you are not cutting on a wood desk or something that if you cut it will leave a mark. you can buy some plastic sheets and or metal sheets that will not break at Hardware stores and stuff.
SECOND PRO TIP
Don't cut towards you.
Actual step is just to cut out the card board
Step 4: A Very Quick Step
Make sure you have some over lap so when you make the side of the main part of the hat you can actually glue the top of the hat to it.
Step 5: The Fun Part
Who said math didn't ever apply to real life?
So find out the diameter and dπ=Circumference
Once you have the circumference find out how tall you want the hat.
Now you can draw out the main part of the hat on the card board from before.
after you have drawn it out you can cut it out using the pro tips from before.
Step 6: Super Fun Cardboard Hat Time
this is the part where it looks like a hat.
Make the bend the tall part of the hat into the size of the smaller circle.
then hot glue them all together so they start to look like a hat.
Step 7: Fabricating the Hat
Okay now you're making progress.
Now you can start using some fabric and covering the part of the hat that is visible.
I did not put fabric on the inside part of the hat.
sometimes it is better to put the fabric on first just to see how to it would look.
Step 8: Hot Glue Your Hot Hat
Now you can start hot gluing your hat together.
I stretched the sleeve from the sweater over top of the hat and stretched it on its side.
I glued my hat so I could not rip anything off of my hat by accident so I used a lot of glue and glue sticks.
My hat is very sturdy.
Step 9: Almost There
you probably want to add some flair and this part is where you can take some creative freedoms here.
I added a ribbon and a feather which made it very sharp looking.
After you are done this you are done your hat.
Thank you for following my first instructable.
My hat was built to be a prop for an animation for my animation class.
