A string-operated puppet with eyes and eyelids moving

Equipment :

- A face in papier mâché, paper mache
- 4 ping pong balls
- wire
- 2 toothpick
- 2 elastic band
- string
- 2 small pieces of wood or plastic
- 1 cross in wood
- 4 rings in metal or plastic


Le matériel :

- Un masque réalisé en papier maché ou autre matière rigide.
- 4 balles de ping pong
- du fil de fer, corde à piano
- cure-dent, pic à brochette
- 2 élastiques
- du fil assez épais ou ficelle
- 2 petites barres en bois ou plastique
- 2 tasseaux pour faire le croisillon de maniement
- 4 petits anneaux en métal ou en plastique rigide

Step 1: Step 1 Movement Left/Right for Eyes

Step 1 Movement Left/Right for eyes

Draw pupil on 2 ping pong balls.
Drill the 2 balls in vertical axis.
put a touthpick in the holes of each ball. It must go over.

Drill the 2 pieces of wood. Do 2 holes in each. The distance is the distance between the axis of pupils.
Glue the piece of wood in the face. One above, the other below the space for the eyes.

Put the drilling balls with teh touthpick in the holes.

Drill a hole in the back of each ping pong ball. Exactly in the center.

Wring the wire to make a "U". Each vertical of the "U" must be inside each hole in the back of each ball. Wring the two ends to get stuck them.

Fasten 2 strings at the end of the bar. One to go Left, the other to go right.

Glue 2 rings in the face at the right ant the left of the eyes. Put each string in each ring.

Drill the top of the head. Put the strings out. When you pull one string by one, the eyes move to right and left.


Etape 1 mouvement de gauche à doite

Dessiner les pupilles sur 2 balles de ping pong
Percer 2 balles de ping pong dans l'axe vertical
Enfoncer le cure-dent en le laissant depacer de chaque coté

Percer les deux petites barres en bois à l'aide d'un foret. Faire deux trous espacés de la distance des axes des yeux.

Coller en dessous et au dessus des trous des yeux les barres.

Glisser les blalles percées avec les cure dents dans les petits trous.

Percer à l'arrière u trou exactement au milieu.

Tordre le fil de fer pour former un U allongé. chaque barre verticlale du U doit s'insérer dans chacun des trous à l'arrière des yeux. tordre chaque extrémité pour la bloquer.

Attacher un fil à chaque bout de la barre (un pour aller à gauche, un pour aller à droite.
coller deux anneaux en métal sur le coté du masque, un à gauche, un à droite. Passer chaque fil dans l'anneau.

Percer le haut du masque pour faire sortir les fils. En tirants sur les fils, les yeux bougent ensemble de gauche à droite.

Drill the two other ping pong balls in the horizontal axis.
Cut the balls in little bit more than a quarter to have the holes inside.

Take the two first balls with the toothpicks and drill them in the horizontal axis.

Put the eyelids on the eyes. Put two smal pieces of wire to make the axis.

Make a notch in the back of the eyelid to permit the movement back with the vertical axis.

Hook on a elastic band and a string at the back of each eyelid.

Put back the eyes with the eyelids in the head.

Strech each elastic band to bottom. Hang the elastic band to the head.

Hang two rings in the top of the eyes.


Put the eyelids's string in the rigns. And in the hole on the top of the head. When you pull a string a eyelid close. It open when you stop.

Etape 2 Les paupières se ferment

Percer les 2 autres balles de ping pong dans l'axe.
Découper les balles en un peu plus d'un quart pour que les trous aient un peu de matière autour.

Sortir les 2 premières balles de leur logement les percer dans l'axe horizontal.
Accrocher les paupières sur les yeus à l'aide de barres en fil de faire. Chaque oeil séparement.

Faire une encoche sur l'arière de la paupière pour que l'axe vertical ne soit pas bloqué. Et que la paupière puisse tourner sur son axe.

Accrocher un élastique à l'arrière de chaque paupière.

Accrocher juste à coté de chaque élastique un fil

Remettre les yeux avec les paupières dans le masque.

Tendre chaque elastique vers le bas du masque. Accrocher les élastiques au masque.

Accrocher deux anneaux au masque au dessus des yeux

Faire passer les fils des paupières dans les anneaux puis dans le trou en haut du masque.
Lorsque l'on tire sur un fil la paupière se ferme. Elle se rouvre lorsque l'on relache.

Drill an other hole in the top of the head, il the middle.

Hang an other string, to the exterior. It will determinate the distance between the cross and the head.

Drill the ends and the middle of the cross.

Hang the last string in the middle.

Hang the strings of the eyes in left and right.

Hang the two strings of the eyelids in front. Pay attention to have the good distance to have the same force and speed for close and open the eyelids.


Etape 3 mettre en place le croisillon

Percer un autre trou en haut du masque, au milieu.
Accrocher un nouveau fil, le faire sortir, il servira à derterminer la distance en tre le croisillon et la tête.

Assembler les tasseaux pour faire une croix. Percer le milieu et chaque extrémité.

Acrocher le dernier fil au milieu.

Acrocher les fils de gauche et droite de chaque coté.

Accrocher les deux fils des paupières à l'avant. Bien regler les distances pour que les paupières se ferment en même temps et avec la même force.
