This project is focused on adapting a stuffed toy shark that is activated by pressing a button in the fin. The toy can be adapted for a child with motor delays or disabilities who requires easier access to activating the toy. To do this, the activation switch must be re-routed to a bigger button that will make it easier for the child to activate.

Supplies

Step 1: Prepare the Toy for Adapting

Cut out the wires that are attached to the original button in the sharks fin so that they are exposed and easily accessible.

Cut the wires before they attach to the button in the toy leaving enough wire on both sides to work with.

Step 2: Preparing the Wires

Step 3: Stripping the Wires

Take the wire strippers and expose the wiring from the toy and also expose the wires to the Jellybean button to get it ready to attach to the toy.

Step 4: Soldering the Jellybean Wires

Solder the wires from the Jellybean button to the wires from the toy, this will make the Jellybean button the new switch.

Step 5: Safety

Wrap all of the soldered sections and exposed wires in electrical tape.

Step 6: Prepare Toy for Final Touches

Take the wiring that is wrapped in electrical tape and place it back inside the toy so that only the wire from the Jellybean button is sticking out.

Step 7: Finish

Sew the toy back together where the wires were originally cut out, this will make the toy ready to play with.
