This claymore is really inexpensive and not too complicated to build and will launch up to 50 BB's almost 30 feet. A real game changer in the world of airsoft.
Step 1: Materials
You will need the following materials for this project:
1. Mousetrap
2. 1 large nail(appr. 2 in.)
3. 1 Medium Brad(1.5in.)
4. 2 small nails(1in.)
5. 10 in. 2-by-4
6. coathanger or similar wire
7. Duct tape
8. String
And the following tools:
1. Vise
2. Hammer
3. Pliers
4. Needle-nosed pliers
5. Wire cutters
6. Drill and bits
Now you're ready to build!!
Step 2: Demolition
In order to use the mousetrap to its full potential, we must take off everything we don't need. Start with the trigger plate. Pry it off with the pliers and discard. Then take off the long arm, but keep it for later. You should end up with a stripped mousetrap and a bar.
Step 3: Building the Base
Now we're ready to secure the mousetrap to its base. First drill holes slightly smaller than the small nails in two places so the wood doesn't split.(don't skip this, I split a mousetrap when I didn't do it). 1. On the mouses head. 2. On the other side so it's a mirror image. Then put the mousetrap on your 2x4 about 1 in. from one side and nail it in.
Step 4: Super Staples!!
Now take your large nail, cut off its head, bend it 90* at the first third, and bend it again at the second third. You should now have a giant staple.
Step 5: Raising the Bar
Now it's time to build what will hold the mousetrap(claymore) from triggering. Take your bar from step 2 and enlarge the hole on one side with the needle-nose pliers. Then slip it on the super staple, making sure it can slide easily. Next drill 2 shallow holes next to the mopusetrap on the "Victor" side next to the "R". Drill the holes as far apart as the super staples' legs are so it will fit in the holes with the bar. Nail it in so that there is a 1/4 in. gap from the staple to the top of the mousetrap.
Step 6: Setting the Trap
Next we're going to put a nail to hold the bar down. Take your medium sized brad and nail it half way in on the "Victor" side next to the "V" parallel to the other nail. Then bend the brad slightly less than 90* away from the "V". You now should now be able to pull back the swing arm and put the bar across and under the nail to set the claymore.
Step 7: Extensions
Take your piece of coathanger and make a model of the swingarm on the mousetrap. T ake a strip of duct tape and tightly wrap the extension to the swingarm making sure it can hold the force of the mousetrap. Now take a piece of tape twice as wide as the swingarm and make a panel with it by sticking it to the arm and itself.
Step 8: Center Pocket
Now make a pocket out of duct tape to hold the BB's. It doesn't have to be fancy, just as long as it does the job. Next, tie a string to the bar across the swing arm to be the tripwire. It might take some adjusting to make the pull of the string less, so if you need to, just adjust the bent nail to a different angle to change the trigger pull.
Step 9: Conclusion
Well, that's it. As you can see it's not too complicated and is easy to make. I have made three of them so I can set them around my base and not have to waste my battery or ammo. In that sense I might as well just sit around with a soda daring people to get me. But it really is a great and inexpensive claymore that works great.
