I have a collection of albums that I am very proud of and has taken very good care of. I have wanted for years to organize, catalogue and preserve my album collection. Most people have a 'bucket list' of things they want to do and places they want to go etc. Well, this was on my so-called 'bucket list' and since I've retired, I've pulled out the ol' bucket list from the deep recesses of my mind, since I never written anything down, and has begun completing some things. I seen the wooden album crate instructable in the email and decided to try it. After much consternation, I completed the crate but because it was not standard American measurements and being a newbie at this, it was somewhat difficult but I got it done. One mantra I have for the things on my bucket list as such, is to complete everything before moving on to the next thing. So I persevered and got it done and had a wonderful time doing it, figuring it out and such. I had taken the PVC class online and had made a couple of things and I thought that I could make a crate for my albums out of PVC. I needed three crate for all my albums so I decided to give it a try. I know that a lot of the great minds that use this venue will come up with all kinds of ways to improve and make a better crate and I await all suggestions. This is my first instructable so keep that in mind. Here is my take on my PVC album crate.

Step 1: Materials and Tools- ASSEMBLE CRATE BOTTOM

MATERIALS

8- 1” SCH 40
PVC PIPE 12.5”

4- 1” SCH 40 PVC PIPE 10”

2- ½” SCH 40 PVC PIPE 10.25

4- 1” FURNITURE GRADE PVC 3-WAY ELBOW

4- 1” FURNITURE GRADE PVC 4-WAY TEE

4- 1” ABS SNAP ON SADDLE TEE (not shown)

4- ½” PVC MALE ADAPTER

4- 1” PVC PLUG

4- CASTERS, RUBBER 2” THREADED STEM

4- METRIC FLANGE NUT M8-1.25 ZINC

8- CUT WASHERS 5/16”

#8x3/4” FLAT HEAD PHILLIPS WOOD SCREWS approx.

TOOLS

SAW (to cut the PVC to size, any comparable tool will do, miter saw, table saw, hand saw, PVC or copper cutter).

TAPE MEASURE

DRILL w 7/64” BIT

#8 COUNTERSINK

1 LB PLASTIC MALLET

OPEN END WRENCHES/SOCKETS FOR NUTS ON WHEELS

PVC CEMENT GLUE AND PRIMER if you want to glue pvc together

ASSEMBLY

1. Assemble 4 of the 12.5” PVC pipe to the four, 4-way tees to form a box as shown. Make sure the tees are orientated so that the center pole is vertical. Leave one end of the box open as shown and assemble four saddle tees with adapters attached and two 10.25”- ½” PVC pipes to the four adapters, evenly spaced, as shown. There may be some length adjustments necessary to complete this assembly but 10.25” worked perfect for me. All pieces may be glued before assembly if you’d like. I just used the screws after complete assembly.

Step 2: ASSEMBLE CRATE SIDES

2. Install the 4- 10” PVC pipes to the top of each 4-way Tee as shown.

Step 3: ASSEMBLE CRATE TOP

3. Assemble the four 12.5” PVC pipes to the 3-way elbows as shown. Make sure the vertical holes are facing the same direction. I found it easier to assemble the top before assembling it to the bottom but any way you can do it would be fine if the top is assembled to the bottom.

Step 4: COMPLETE CRATE ASSEMBLY

4. At this point, if you don’t want wheels, you can just install the plugs into the bottom of the 4-way tees. Drill a countersunk hole at each point where the pipes fit into the tee’s, elbows and plugs and then install the screws, paint it, if you’d like and put your albums inside.

Step 5: INSTALLS WHEELS

5. If you want the wheels, drill a 5/16” hole in the bottom center of each plug. Install a washer on the caster stem, insert the stem through the drilled hole and put another washer and then tighten down the nut before installing to the bottom of each 4-way tee.
