This is the first time I used this method on a table. I found this table in rough condition. It was a blonde wood framing white tiles, in which half were broken. I figured this would be a good candidate for this experiment of mine.

This instructable will explain how to do the alcohol ink on tile. It should work on any other non-porous material. Although I learned it as alcohol ink, I actually use paint.

Step 1: Gather Materials and Add Alcohol to Ink

You may want to use actual ink with alcohol instead of paint like me, or sheet metal instead of tile. Either way, you need to gather them up.

I use empty craft bottles for my mix. I put a dollop of paint and add a little alcohol, enough to make the paint drip out of the bottle when turned upside down without having to squeeze it. You may have to experiment to get the mix you feel comfortable with.

Step 2: Cover Surface With Alcohol

I put a spray bottle lid on my bottle of alcohol to make life easier. You just to make sure the surface is wet, not flowing onto the floor.

Step 3: Add Ink Mixture to Surface

I drip my mixture, sometimes a little squeeze onto the surface.

Step 4: Cover Until Satisfied

I wanted to cover the whole tile, you may only want a partial covering or just a hint. There is no right way or wrong way. Be creative.

Step 5: Protect Your Masterpiece

I have used numerous products to seal the paints in, but on this particular project I used numerous layers of .polyurethane. I love the spray polyurethane, but that wasn't an option this time.

Having to use grout on the table, wiping it off before I spread polyurethane damaged a few spots on the table, so I had to redo the paint part.

So, whatever you intend to paint with this method, protect it immediately after it dries.
