Introduction: Almost an Apple

In the next few steps i shall describe all the ways i have hammered my old laptop, to allmost an iBook fake lookalike.
the notebook is....was a Gericom overdose polo, a 400mhz celeron 128mbRam, CD rom.......etc.... something that i actually still use...just for net surfing and for my digicam control and some other stuf...

Step 1: Disassamble.... Who Neads a Floppy?

First ripped it appart... every screw and bolt, speakers and the touchpad.......
this POOR POOR laptop has got only one USB port, why not add some more?!!

but where?

who needs a floppy when one could have more usb ports...

So i added a four port usb hub internal. I soldered on the original usb port the cable that came with the hub and guided it to where the floppy was..

Step 2: Get the Pait Ready...but First: Add Interal Bluetooth and Make a Nice Frontplate for the Hub..

So the whole thing is dissasambled ...

there have been some steps that are, sadly, undocumented, but i'll tray to describe them.

first of all i had to produce a shell that would fit into the place where the floppy formaly was ,
this was made outr of a peace of plastic that was laying around so i grinded and heated it up so it fitetd the laptop and the hub would fit.....

There came the idea,

why not add internal Bluetooth? i had a usb bluetooth dongle so why not use it in there

so said so done..

then the glow in the dark feature that the iBook has.. you know the Apple..

So i drilled and grinded a hole in the front in the shape of some rotten fruit that looks like a pear

Step 3: The First Layer of Paint

But before i have to spray on some plastic primer, in my case it is grey colored..
the primer drys very fast so i could lay down the first layer of white paint.

After the second layer has dried i could apply the clear coat, a gloss for the front and some not glossy for everything else.

Step 4: Assamble It Back ...

now i just had to assamble it back carefull, not to scratch the paint..

Than i added some yahoo widgets to give it the feel of a mac ... sortof...

but it dose look nice and i like it...

i hope somebody gets inspired and we'll se more mods like this in the future..

768 seems more normal than 624 to me.

I've heard of 3GB though in some new computers. Is it okay to have RAM in 3 different slots, not 1, 2, or 4?

Well how many ram slots are there? Usually I've ever seen 1 or 2 in any new computer, but yes if you can fit 3 gigs in there, it'll most likely work.

Haha, that's cool man. Is that just Ubuntu skinned to look like like a mac you have running? I'm working on dual booting a cracked version of OS X with XP on my PC right now, that would be interesting to see on your laptop as well.

Oh, and here's a website I ran across a while ago, gives great instructions and resources to make Ubuntu look almost identical to OS X (if you are running Ubuntu, sorry if I'm wrong):

hmm... instead of a apple, it's a pear! For software it needs xubuntu with a little modding. 400MHz celeron and 128MB RAM are fine with me, but one USB is just bad...

Throw Ubuntu 8.04 on it, add the Avant Window Manager, and delete the top and bottom menu bars. That would top off the Apple look. Avant has an OSX look to it.

Hey, that's great and original! I like your choice of rotten fruit! You can call your computer the iBosc or iDanjou to parody apple's fruity names. And what is the GUI that you used? Where can I get those apple widgets for windows?
