One easy way to square the miter saw is using angle measuring gadget. Using this device we can reliable align the miter saw blade horizontally and vertically.In this video we square Dewalt DW705 miter saw, but any miter saw can be calibrated, squared of with this method.

I could not find a link to the video when viewing on an iPad 2, so I went to YouTube and found the video. As the subscripts mention, this is best suited for checking the saw blade set at 90 degrees. It checks to see if the blade leans nearer to or farther away from the dial indicator pin compared to the reference screws. If the blade is truly set to 90 degrees, the dial indicator will give the same reading from both sides of the blade. I am not sure how to calibrate for other angles.
The calibration is done at 90°. In the video it is shown that when 90° angle is established on table saw, the readings of the gadget would be same from both sides of the blade. After that you make sure zeroing the Dial indicator and 90° calibration is done! Basically the gadget is self calibrating and you don't need a reference to compare it with. As for other angles, you use the Table saw scale for that. After aligning the table saw to 90°, you align its scale 0°. Then you set it to 5, 15, 22.5 and 30° and take readings with the gadget. Then create a table, plug in the numbers, print and attach to the gadget and you are done. Good luck.

OK, that was fun to watch but how do you make this "Angle Measuring Gadget?". How do you calibrate it? How do you position it so that it is able to correctly measure the angles? Etc...

I have yet to come up with drawing and instructions on how to build it. But I can answer your question about calibration. The calibration is done at 90°. In the video it is shown that when 90° angle is established on table saw, the readings of the gadget would be same from both sides of the blade.
