Introduction: Antique Box Made From Wine Crate

About: I am mechanical engineer and I work on robotic mechanical design. I am running my startup and sometime working on my design hobby.

I have a board game named Viticulture and I'd love to have a carry box for it. Since it is a game about vineyard, I want it to have a rustic look and somehow be related to wine. For that purpose, a wine crate is perfect to be used. Moreover, you can give the crate anothe life. Of course you can use this instructable to make vintage box for your jelwery or things you love.

Supplies

  1. Used wine crate or box
  2. 3x Brass hinges
  3. 1x Handles
  4. 1x Hook (in the same set of hinges)

Step 1: Add the Hinges

For the size of the wine crate, I added 3 hinges on the side of the lid. Feel free to add more in case you need and don't forget to check if the lid can be fully closed/opened.

Step 2: Add the Hook

The hook has 2 parts to be attached on the lid and the box. I first screwed the top part to the lid and used the lid to adjust the position of the bottom part on the box. This step is important for the box to be locked well.

Step 3: Attach the Handle

Same with the handle, fixe one side and use it to locate the other.

Step 4: Decoration (optional)

I'd like to have the Viticulture name on the box but I am not so good at paiting. I could design so I made a stencil and paint the red Viticulture on it. I also added liner to protect game tokens and cards. You can also add polyurethane finish for even a better look. It is up to you to decor your box.

Happy making!
