Apple Pretzel Pockets

Introduction: Apple Pretzel Pockets

WARNING: these snacks are addictive! Just to give you a taste of what I'm talking about, think apple pie and soft pretzels. Apple pretzel pockets are perfect snacks or appetizers. They can also be a sweet treat with a sugar or frosting glaze! This creation is super easy and does NOT play with active dry yeasts... just easy dough and real apples! Yields: bout 6.5 dozen pockets

Step 1: Getting Started: Ingredients

Here are the ingredients:
Filling:

-1.5 tbsp brown sugar

-1 tsp cinnamon

-1/4 tsp vanilla extract

-1/4 tsp ginger

-1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce

Pretzel bread:

-2.5 cups flour

-1/4 cup granulated sugar

-1/4 tsp salt

-1 tsp baking powder

-1/2 tsp baking soda

-1 medium egg whisked

-1/3 cup milk

-3 tbsp butter

-increments of water

Step 2: Prep Continued

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees and line two cooking trays with parchment paper

Step 3: Filling (1)

Remove the core from the two apples and dice apples into small pieces

Step 4: Filling (2)

In the bowl of apples, combine the brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, ginger and applesauce. Mix well and set aside.

Step 5: Pretzel Bread (1)

In a small bowl, whisk the single egg.

Step 6: Pretzel Bread (2)

In a medium size bowl, mix the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. fold in the butter, milk and whisked egg.

Step 7: Pretzel Bread (3)

Using your hands, form the dough. This will involve kneading the dough and adding increments of water to incorporate all of the dry ingredients. Lightly flour a flat surface to keep the dough from sticking and continue to kneed the dough until it is solid.

Step 8: Time to Assemble!

get your apple filling mixture and pretzel bread. A knife or cutting instrument is helpful for this step, but not necessary. Pull or cut apart a thumb-sized piece of bread and flatten using your thumb. Take a pinch of minced apple filling and place in the middle of the dough piece. Fold the dough around the apple to make a ball of filled pretzel dough. Continue this step until all the dough and apples have been used up.

Step 9: Finishing Up

Once you have completed making the pretzel pockets, fill your palm with salt and sprinkle on the pretzels.
**Optional step: sprinkle pockets with ground cinnamon.

Step 10: Baking

Place your two trays of pretzel pockets in the oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes. This will make your house smell HEAVENLY so prepare yourself!

Step 11: The Big Reveal...

You will be able to tell your apple pretzel pockets are done when they are hardened on the outside and slightly golden. Wait until your pretzels are done and enjoy!

It all depends on how much ginger taste you prefer but the fresh ginger will definitely taste stronger so I would suggest less.
