Introduction: 003 Architectural Model

With this Instructable I tried to be more instructional. Ive taken photos throughout the model making process.

The materials that I used were foam core and chip board. The tools that I used were olfa and exacto blades, metal ruler, pen, and pencil.

I drafted the pattern in AutoCAD taking in consideration the need for the components to be regular enough to create efficiently, yet irregular enough to yield a dynamic composition. I printed the pattern on a sheet of paper, taped the sheet of paper to a sheet of foam core, transferred the pattern to the foam core with an exacto, then glued down the fins/ribs.

I was inspired by the facade of the new LA Police Department Headquarters in downtown LA. It occurred to me while I was making it that it resembles one of my favorite sculptures. Rachel Whitehead created a cement plaster mold of the space between a typical shelf of library books, rendering the aisle as solid and the books as voids. http://www.moma.org/collection/works/81833?locale...
