Intro: Art From Old Magazines, junk Mail and Catelogs

When I was in college I kinda was obsessed with Van Gogh's "Starry Night". I decided to make as many renditions as I could. I did oil pastel, colored pencil, crayon and pencil. Then I decided to do a collage. The mosaic took me about four years working on and off!

What you will need:
Poster Board
Pencil
LOTS of scrap glossy paper (mags etc.)
Glue stick
Mod Podge
Lot and Lots of Patience!!!

First lightly make a rough sketch of your picture on the poster board

Next start cutting strips of paper into long 1/4 inch wide strips, Then cut the strips at different angles so that you have 1/4 pieces that are not square.
Keep the different colors separated

Now you can start gluing the tiny bits of paper to your poster board using the glue stick. This is the tedious part. I worked on the Starry Night on an off for about 4 years!!!

After you have finished gluing all your pieces down cover the whole thing with Mod Podge so that you don't lose little bits here and there.

Frame and Hang!!!!

*The last two photos are the same concept with much bigger pieces

WOW! As AlCurb wrote below, it would be very helpful if you would post in-depth instructions how to create a piece of art like you did. Not a drawer, my preference is to only work & create 3-dimensional items: make wire jewelry. 4 years of work needs a tad more instructions, so create a very simple project, OK? Thanks! Juli ;)

Beautiful work. I would love to see an illustrated step-by-step instruction how you map it out, selected the colors, etc. I can't draw, and tracing impressionistic work is not easy at all since there are no hard lines. If it took you 4 years to complete it, that means that there is something more to it than the simple explanation you gave us.

wow...that's a lot of work! how long did it take?
I worked in it on and off for about 4 years! The pieces are smaller than the tip of my pinky finger. The flower only took a couple of day but the pieces are much bigger.
wow!I....do not have that patience! good for you!
This is awesome, I've always loved Starry Night too, so I liked it as soon as I saw it.
This is very nicely done! Voted for you for the I made it! Good luck!
wow thats so cool. good job.
i had to do this in art class one time.
This is really awesome. Love it!
When I was in collage.... Then I decided to do a college.
I see what you did there... ;)

Anyway, of all the pieces to be obsessed with, I'm glad it was "Starry Night"! Absolutely awesome. :)
Thank you,
Yeah I have to say that my spelling is so bad that I can even confuse spell check!!!
Ah, sorry, I thought it was on porpoise! :)
