Introduction: Artificial Hand

About: Qatar Science and Technology Secondary School is the first stem based learning school in Qatar. in our fablab students use the engineering design process to build solutions to local and global problems. in thi…

We are building a prosthetic hand to solve some people problem that don't have a hand or their hands are not functioning very well.

Step 1: Needed Materials

you need:

- PLA

- 3D Printer

- Arduino

- Motors

- wires

- 15 Thin ropes (50cm each)

the final design is here.

Step 2: Base

the first thing to build

base.

the base is one of the main parts of the hand which holds the motor and hand together, it was 3D printed

Step 3: Palm

the second thing to build.

hand (palmistry).

as you can see this is one of the main part of the hand, which was 3D printed like the base

Step 4: Fingers

the third thing to build (fingers).

the fingers are the parts which are used to grip stuff, and was 3D printed

Step 5: The Pulley

the pulley is used to arrange the ropes which are connected to the motors, the pully is 3D printed and has a bearing added after printing the first part so it can easily spin

Step 6: Circuit

connect the circuit as shown with the sensors, motors, and arduino

Step 7: Coding!

code the following shown code in arduino, then upload it to your arduino hardware

Step 8: Calibration

we need to calibrate the sensors by running the code and opening the serial monitor in the arduino software, and finding the lowest and highest number

Step 9: Assembly

we used the ropes to put the fingers and palm together and to connect the fingers to the motors

we then attached the hand (palm and fingers) to the base by drilling holes and inserting nails to tight them together

then we placed the circuit with the motors, sensor and arduino and connected the ropes with the sensor.
