Our library Summer Reading Theme a few years back was Dig Into Reading. I constructed this giant pterosaur out of cardboard. It was lightweight, making it easy to hang, and recyclable after the program was over. The pieces are cut out flat, and interlocked to make a 3-d creature. It's wingspan was over 7 feet.

Step 1: Step 1: Attack of the Pterosaur. Materials

I apologize for the lack of photos. I made this before I discovered Instructables.

Materials:

Brown cardboard. The largest sheets you can find make this easier. I got mine from a local company that makes boxes. They will give you pieces left over after a run of boxes.

Box cutter

White or Ivory paint.

Glue. I used Gorilla Glue.

Step 2: Step 2 Attack of the Pterosaur. Draw, Paint,and Cut.

Draw your pterosaur. You need a head/body, wings, legs, and a wing support piece. I just drew mine freehand. Then paint wingbones, ribs and legbones. I made no attempt to be scientifically accurate. You might want to paint wing bones on both sides if it will be viewed from above and below.

Cut your pieces out and slot them into the appropriate places.

I had one fishing line into the body, and one from each wingtip.
