Intro: Backboard Washers Game

Tired of the same old boring washers game? Do you want to add more players to the fun? Check out Backboard Washers. It's played similar to regular washers and it's scored by frames (like bowling.) You can have unlimited individuals players. Throw the washers underhand, overhand, bounce 'em of the grass, bounce 'em of the backboard...it doesn't matter. Let the little kids throw from a short distance, make the adults do it from 25 feet out. Heck, if you position the board correctly, Grandma can toss washers without getting out of her lawn chair.

You can make your own Backboard Washers game with a few supplies and tools in less than an hour.

STEP 1: Gather Tools & Materials

Circular Saw

Drill

Screws

Wood Glue

1/2" plywood scraps

1x2 pieces

1 piece of an old washers set

STEP 2: Put It Together

Frame:

I measured the width of the plywood panels 1" wider so the 1x2 supports would fit snuggly. The backboard portion is 14" high. Screw and glue the base piece to the backboard. Screw and glue the diagonal supports on each side.

Backboard:

Draw a line from corner to corner, then another line from the opposite corner. The intersection of those lines in the center of the backboard. Place a screw here.

STEP 3: Go Play!!!

Basic Rules:

• Each player throws six washers per round. There are ten rounds per game. Highest score wins!
• Stand approximately 15 feet from the box and start tossing washers.
• 1 point for a washer in the main box.
• 3 points for a washer in the pvc tube.
• 10 points for a washer hanging on the backboard screw.

Accessories:

I used some old particle board to make a tiny clipboard for scorekeeping. It's roughly the size of half a sheet of notebook paper.
