Hi there, I'm making this with some Middle School students, would an arduino leonardo work for the controller?

yes it would, plus the arduino leornardo has HID which is an extra feature you can use for gaming

This is such a cool project! Just one question, what usb joystick controller did you use for the button controls?

Awesome details, thanks! How did you print and attache the marquee ? Could it use LEDs for backlight ?

I have printed the marquee on A3 paper
and is placed between two plexiglass plates
A3 marquee is too small so I have to paint a black border at the end of the plexiglass left and right ( on the back of the front glass)
LED light is bright
I used a regular bulb with low lumen
