Just finished making one for my son for Christmas. I used pony beads and wire. I tried fishing line at first, but it was too flimsy and didn't hold it's shape, so I switched over to some wire. Don't know what size it was, just something I found in the shed. I already had the pony beads from years of collecting, so this was a free gift, and oh so pretty. Can't wait to give it to my son and see it up in his garden. Thanks for the awesome 'ible!

I'll bet you could buy a couple bags of cheap pony beads for this project. From a distance, the beads would look small, and anything smaller than a pony bead size might be hard to see, depending on how far away you are. I love this idea but don't have any trees in my yard. Still, I think the size could be adjusted fairly easily. Imagine a potted plant-size web between a couple of sticks, especially for people like me who easily kill plants.

Hi - I'll have to post some step-by step, but basically I used fishing line and plastic beads. I started by making a large 'X" and then overlaying and tying together a second large "X" using regular knots. I spread it out both on a round table (and on the patio floor a different day) using duct tape to hold down the web ends as I was working (to hold the shape). I then beaded each arm of the web and then beaded knotted the connecting "web" sections. . I left about 3 - 4 inches of fishing line and ran it back through the beads. Even though it is fishing line and knots it is still up in my backyard and I've only had to repair it once due to a fairly large tree branch falling on it. Hope this helps!

I used random plastic beads due to the thickness of the fishing line.
