Introduction: Beautiful Backsplash
Make an awesome backsplash with tons of doodads, beads and bottle caps!
Step 1: Watch the Video Tutorial Here!
Step 2: You'll Need
1/4" thick plywood
Jigsaw
Grout or plaster of Paris
E-6000 Glue
Beads, dominos, gems, bottle caps, tiles, small mirrors, seashells
Step 3: Make the Base
Cut out the shape of your backsplash in the 1/4" plywood and sand the edges
Create your design using all of your doodads
Step 4: Glue and Grout
Glue everything in place with E-6000 glue and let dry overnight
Cover the entire backsplash in group and with a damp sponge, remove the grout to expose the glue on pieces
*Make sure to really clean the pieces before the grout dries
*You can also use plaster of Paris

This is so cool!! How did you finish the top/sides? Do you just round the grout around to the back of the wood?

Yes, you can add grout to the sides, too. I glued tiny buttons along the edge but you can't see it in this photo.

I love your work; always something just so very creative. Do you think this would work in the kitchen, maybe with a polyurethane finish?

Yup, it would totally work in a kitchen.....I would probably put a sealant on it just to be safe, though. I think it depends on how wet it gets. Mine, which is by the bathroom sink isn't treated and it's been fine for over a year.

How do you recommend cleaning the piece once it is in place? Also, what did you do for the top edge? Is it also covered in grout?

It's really easy to keep clean. I use windex and a sponge and it's fine. The grout says clean and the glass pieces sometimes get water spots, but that's about it.
