Introduction: Belt Tesnioner of Internal Combustion Engine for Educational Purpose

In the internal combustion enginge, a tensioner keeps the chain running tight. We re- assembly a TOYOTA engine with the class of Car Technicians.

The original tensioner is a threaded steel pin which based on the front cover of the timing belt. When you remove the cover, you remove the original tensioner too.

So we needed a tensioner that will tesnion the timing belt when the front cover has been removed. This tensioner isn't necessary to be from a rigid material like steel. We will made him of plastic as its purpose is only to help students during the assembly of the machine, to tension the timing belt and complete the "timing" of the engine.

Supplies

Tinkercad

Ultimaker Cura Slicer

Wanhao D12 3D printer

Step 1:

First of all we have to design this special tool.

We desing the timing belt tesnioner to the Tinkercad. We find two screws on the engine that would help to support the tensioner. We measure their distance and started experiment with the shape of the tesnioner in the Tinkercad

Step 2:

Then we slice the file in the Cura Slicer. We select typical settings as layer height 0.2mm, width 0.4mm, printing speed 50mm/s and increase the infill to 40% for getting a more strengh material

Step 3:

3D print the design.

Step 4:

Attach the printed tensioner on the engine and test the function of the timing belt. Now you can easily turn the engine in order to make the timing.
