Introduction: Big Resistor

About: I love to make useful things with the help of Scrap. Creative and Innovative one.

A resistor is a passive two-terminal electrical component that is used for either limiting or regulating the flow of electric current in electrical circuits.

The main purpose of resistor is to reduce the current flow and to lower the voltage in any particular portion of the circuit. It is made of copper wires which are coiled around a ceramic rod and the outer part of the resistor is coated with an insulating paint.

In this instructable, i made a big size electrical Resistor using scrap materials. This resistor is 21 times bigger than the original resistor(length = 6.5mm). This is only the large representation of electrical resistor.

Step 1: Material Required:

  • LED Bulb Cover (2pcs)
  • PVC pipe (70mm long)
  • Acrylic paints
  • Super Glue
  • Aluminium Wire
  • Foam sheet
  • Paper Tape

Tools used:

  • Mini hacksaw
  • Vernier caliper Digital
  • Cardboard cutter
  • Wire Stripping Plier
  • Drill machine

Step 2: Main Body (Part-1):

Take a piece of PVC pipe and cut it along the length (70mm). The PVC pipe dimensions are:-

External Diameter = 39mm

Internal Diameter = 37.5mm

Total length = 70mm

These dimensions are greater than the original dimensions of original Resistor.

Step 3: Main Body (Part-2):

Now take two LED bulb cover (diameter = 45mm). I got these cover from old 10W LED bulbs. Drill a hole on the top of each bulb cover so that the aluminium wire can pass through it. Paste them on each side of the PVC piece with the help of Superglue. Put the aluminium wire through the holes which acts as two terminal of the resistor.

Step 4: Coloring

Now paint the whole body with blue color. After drying, paint color strips (Brown and black) on the body as shown on original resistor.

To paint accurately paste adhesive paper tape strips. The tape strips were prepared with the help of cardboard cutter. After the paint dries, remove the tape.

Step 5: Assembling All Parts

Color it and leave it for drying.

After Drying, remove the extra tape. The big resistor is ready. Mount this resistor on a foam sheet. The overall length of this resistor is 139.15mm, which is 21 times greater than the original resistor(Length = 6.5mm).
