Introduction: From Short Blazer to Coat Dress
Turn a plain blazer into a couture coat dress!
Step 1: Watch the Video Tutorial Here
Step 2: You'll Need
1 Blazer
2 yards heavy cotton or wool fabric
2 yards embellished lace
Sewing machine
E-6000 Fabri-Fuse Glue
Scissors
Straight pins
Fabric chalk
Step 3: Lay Out the Fabric
Lay one side of your blazer flat
Place the folded fabric under the blazer
*Line up the straight edges of the fabric with the front of the blazer
With a ruler, draw an extension on the fabric (I added 12" to this blazer)
Step 4: Draw and Cut Your Extension
Once you've drawn the extension on the fabric, cut it out
Remove the pins and add 1/2" to the top of the extended fabric
Pin the pieces to the base of the blazer
Step 5: Stitch and Cut Out the Lace
Zigzag both pieces to the bottom of the blazer using a wide stitch
Cut 8" up from the edge of each side of the lace fabric
Cut out several of the lace designs that are left in the middle of the fabric
Step 6: Pin and Glue on the Lace
Place the edge of the lace fabric on the extension of the coat and glue in place
Add pieces to the collar, cuff and anywhere you need to fill in
Pin and glue in place and let dry overnight

Wow , this is a really something. I do have a blazer that I don't want to use as one. I would love to turn it into a dress. But the problem is that I am not very acquainted with proper cutting and sewing of the cloth(it is shown to be very easy here, but I get perplexed) Moreover the blazer I have is not tailored , first I have to accomplish that... Any kind of help will be really appreciated. The one I have attached herein.

You might try creating a corset back using one of the instructables I posted before. You can do it with safety pins and ribbon OR with eyelet tape. Just make sure to match the straight grain of the fabric with the front of your coat where the buttons and button holes are and then cut around like that. If you watch the video, you'll get a much better idea of how it's done.
