Introduction: Blooms Have Arrived So Have Beautifully Simple Crafts

About: I love to do anything creative. Whether writing or painting, I am very happy in a web of creativity.
Spring is officially here. This means it’s time to play and create with nature; more specifically with flowers. Some may think that displaying flowers is only possible with vases or in a garden, but there are cheap and simple ways to add some floral arrangements to your home…and in your windows.

Mini vases can be created out of simple materials and added to any window in the house for a splash of color in three easy steps. To get started, you only need a few supplies to make any version you want.

Step 1:

What you need:

• Test tubes or glass tubes (can be found on scientific supply shops online or mixed-media art stores)
• Copper or stainless-steel wire or beading wire
• Round-nosed jewelry pliers
• Wire cutters
• Suction cups with a small loop
• Optional: beads, other pieces like jewelry

The wire can be any color or size, just find what you like to decorate your tubes. Beads or jewelry pieces can be purchased at your whim to add as well. Once you have all of your pieces, you are ready to start making beautiful art to brighten your windows or even your mirrors should you want to add more.

Step 2:

Take the round-nose pliers and coil the length of wire into a circle and secure one end of the wire to the other side. You can start with a spiral or make a circle whichever works for you. The circle should be the size of the tube for it to fit comfortably inside of it. From there, start wrapping the coil around the bottom of the tube to the top. It is your choice to wrap it tightly or loosely around the tube, however you want to decorate it.

Step 3:

Your optional choice: as you twist the wire, you may add whatever beads or jewelry or whichever pieces you wanted to add by threading them with the wire. Also, you can add them first then wrap the tube (Step 2) or wrap and bead as you go. Your choice.

Step 4:

When you get to the top of the tube, cut the wire so there is at least an inch of excess wire at the top of the tube. Take the excess wire and loop it through the suction cup. Make sure you twist the wire a few times and save fingers by tucking away the sharp ends. The photograph shows just the wrap and twist to give you an idea of how it would look.

Step 5:

Finally, it’s time to add the flowers. It may be easier to add the suction cup to the window or the mirror before you add the water, but it’s entirely up to you. Once the water is added, insert the stem of your flower and enjoy the beautiful new pieces of art. Pictured is a vase made with bead wire and added plastic beads.

Step 6:

It’s not hard to take care of whichever flowers you choose. Just make sure you change the water in the “vases” daily. Also, keep the ends clipped and then re-clip them as the days go on. Other than that, try not to hang the new vases in direct sunlight.

Now, you have vases that you can use for different seasons, changing the flowers as you change the seasons. Enjoy beauty all year-round.
