Introduction: Bombay Lamp

I had an old bedside lamp I did not use anymore since I built this lamp and an empty bottle Bombay Sapphire lying around and decided to combine them.

Here is how I did this.

Step 1: Materials and Tools

Materials:

  • any empty bottle you like
  • lampshade
  • socket
  • cable with switch
  • bulb

Tools:

You don't need that many tools. I used a Dremel with some bits but you could also use a drill for glass. And I used a hot glue gun - that's it.

Step 2: Drilling the Hole for the Cable

I began with drilling the hole for the cable. I took some tape so the tip of the drill does not slip off. Then I began with a really small bit to make a 'starting point' and took a bigger bit to completely drill the hole.

You have to use a low rotating speed and pay attention that the whole thing does not get too hot because otherwise the glass could break.

Step 3: Adjusting the Socket

The socket was too big to fit inside the bottleneck and I did not want to just glue it on top. So I decided to cut away everything that was not needed with the Dremel. After that it fit tightly into the bottleneck, which I found was perfect.

Step 4: Putting the Cable in and Attach the Socket

Now I only had to put the cable through the hole, put it in the socket and glue the socket into the bottleneck.

Luckily the lamp I disassembled had a little plastic ring which was perfect to cover the hole and hold the cable in place.

Step 5: Adding the Lampshade and the Bulb

Last thing was to add the lampshade and the bulb and to test if it works.

It does and I'm happy with how it came out!
