Introduction: Brussels Sprouts

About: Check out my etsy shop too! etsy.com/shop/scoochmaroo
You will LOVE these crispy Brussels sprouts! So easy and so delicious, you should make them tonight!

The problem with most Brussels sprouts is that they taste bitter or bland. But a little bacon, a lot of garlic and a lemon finish make these sprout unforgettable! No bacon? Use ham! I used prosciutto I had left over from making Chicken Cordon Bleu!

  • For a strictly-veggie option, try smoked tempeh (or other fakin bacon). The smokey quality adds an unforgettable depth of flavor.

Step 1: Materials

  • Brussels sprouts
  • 2 slices bacon (or ham, prosciutto, smoked tempeh, etc)
  • Chopped garlic
  • Dash of lemon juice
  • Olive oil

Step 2: Prep

Cut bottoms off of Brussel sprouts and remove any icky leaves

Slice sprouts in half

Toss in olive oil to coat

Cut bacon into small pieces

Step 3: Cook

Cook bacon over med-high heat. (if using prosciutto, tempeh, or any less fatty meat, add a dash of olive oil)

Add chopped garlic (as much as you like!)

Place sprouts in bacon grease, cut-side down

Cook until cut-side is golden brown

Toss ingredients around in pan for a few more minutes until everything's nice and crispy.

Plate and sprinkle with a heathy does of lemon juice.

Now just try to resist these tasty morsels!!

I've hated sprouts for the last 35 years,I thought I'd be brave and try your recipe. I'm cured, the sprouts weren't just edible, I actually enjoyed them!

YUM! These are so going on the menu. I was thinking maybe I would serve them with a chèvre/prosciutto tart. Such a delicious idea! Thanks for sharing.

I've never liked brussels sprouts, it's probably the way they've always been cooked, like peas. I'll have to try this sometime though!

Try it! These are so different from any other style of cooking sprouts I've ever had. They're CRISPY which is awesome, and the lemon adds so much. I tried it without the lemon first, and bah, they were ok. But then with the lemon, wow!

What's not to love about brussels sprouts??? I never had them growing up, because my mom hated them. When I tried them as an adult, I thought, what the heck? She had me eating LIMA BEANS instead of brussels sprouts??? Some people just don't know what they're missing! (-:

OMG me too! My mom hated them so I never had one until grad school! Mostly I like them just steamed, with nothing on them. But these are so crispy and delicious, they're too hard to resist.

Broiled with olive oil and seasoned salt is our typical way of having these as well but this looks like a great alternative! Thanks!

Proof again that anything can be rendered edible by adding bacon, garlic and lemon! Great recipe- especially for those of us who would rather eat the dirt than the sprout! Thanks.

I made a very similar dish for Thanksgiving this past year. Had a pretty high bacon to sprouts ratio. It was wonderful and everyone loved it, even the kids..:)
My Brother took the recipe and made it for the guys at the firehouse..Big hit!

When I was little, my mom boiled these little cuties until they were soft & mushy (ugh!). They only way I could eat them was with an amount of ketchup equal to the pile of sprouts! I now like them roasted with olive oil, but this recipe gives me another option to flavor up the little guys! Thanks for the idea. I'm going to the farmer's market today to get some fresh sprouts... (my hubby & kids still won't eat them, but too bad for them!)

Well now here's something that has everything right. I do similar with cabbage, but would never have thought of using sprouts - definitely one to try thanks. L

I like them but the only time I get them is when I'm at the dorm about once a month. Back at home we very rarely get them.
