Bucket Rat/mouse Trap

Catch rats or mice with a bucket of water. Simple and can catch multiple rats with out being reset.

Step 1: You Will Need...

Bucket

Pet bottle

Peanut butter (or another oil based bait that will work on your particular vermin)

Water

2 Planks.

Step 2: Preperation

1. Half fill the bucket with water

2. Half fill the Pet bottle with water and screw the lid on. Smear the bottle with peanut butter or your other bait.

3. Put the bottle in the bucket. It should float on the water.

4. Select the area where your vermin gather and place the bucket. Put 1 plank over the center of the top of the bucket and use the other to make a ramp.

Step 3: Wait

Leave th trap overnight and hopefully catch that critter. You may need to run your operation a few nights till the critters get use to the new item in the area.

Check it every day and remove any captured animals. Bear in mind they will drown in the water as they will get tired of swimming.

Then you are like me. I love squirrels. Anyway, to prevent squirrels from getting caught, use cheese. Squirrels don't like cheese, while rats do.

you even have no water in the bottom, buy a cheap cage from somewhere and catch the pest alive!!!!! you could also sell it and make some money!!!!!!!! NAH!!! LET IT DIE!!!! HAHAHA!!!!!

Do the rats drown? They cannot climb up the wall of the plastic container? They climb up plastic containers we have our citrus trees growing in .They are about the same size as the bucket you have. Is there something we can do to make sure they cannot climb back out? Thanks!

I catch many times small mice with this method, and I never even put the water in it, just food. The mice can not climb the smooth edge of the bucket if it is deep enough.

In the trap they drown. The water is deep enough so they can not use the floor of the bucket to spring up from. No idea what you can do for your trees. Prehaps your bucket is not smooth on the inside. Try changing for a bucket with smooth edges.

This could be made more effective by using a round dowel across the top. Cut a hole in the bottom of the bottle and slide it over the rod without the cap. Then put the bait just around the middle of the bottle so the mouse/rat has to climb onto the bottle which will roll with it's weight and dump it into the water.

in camp we used the little 6oz juice cans threaded on a wire that was tied to where the handles attached to the bucket. and a squirt of dish soap in the water .......
