Buffing Out Scuff Marks and Paint From Your Vehicle

It happens to all of us from time to time, either someone scrapes your car while you've left it in the carpark (parking lot, for my American friends), and you come out to see a lovely bright mark on your paint, red, green, white, or in this case, yellow! I promised my wife that I wouldn't tell you that she actually backed into a bright yellow sign, shh ;)

Step 1: What You'll Need

Fairly simple, for this little project you will need:

Cut & Polish - in this case I had a tin of Kitten Cream Cut & Polish #2 in my garage which worked well, it is essentially a product that is designed to rejuvenate old paintwork on vehicles by removing the top layer and then polishing the remainder - in this case, we want to 'cut' out the top layer of bright yellow paint.

CAUTION - please read the instructions on any cutting compound before applying it to your vehicle to ensure that it wont damage your paint, as some types do not respond well to this treatment (metallic, etc.).

Clean Cloth - I had some old towels laying around that were made of cotton, so I made use of these - you wont need very much, just two pieces, one for applying the compound, and another for buffing it out.

Simple!

Step 2: Applying the Compound

You wont need too much, depending on the surface area you are trying to repair, this amount was just fine for my purposes and I applied it gently with the cloth, leaving it then to dry for around 2 - 3 minutes.

Step 3: Buff It Out

Using a new piece of cloth, gently buff the compound off the vehicle in a circular motion without applying too much pressure at all - if you are doing a large area, remember to change to a clean cloth regularly although that wasn't an issue for this project.

Step 4: The Finish!

As you can see, no more yellow paint!
