About: Occupation: tech support

Small box made from single pack of 30 paint stirrers, each 6 inches long from Home Depot. The challenge was to see what can be made with a single pack of 30 paint stirrers.

Supplies

  1. Pack of 30 paint stirrers, each 6 inches long from Home Depot.
  2. Wood glue
  3. Heavy duty snips

Step 1: Cut 11 Paint Stirrers in Half

  1. Use tape measure to measure 1/2 of a paint stirrer.
  2. Take 11 paint stirrers and cut each one in half, using the first one cut to measure it out.
  3. These will form the base and walls of the box.
  4. There should be 22 pieces of wood.

Step 2: Cut Paint Stirrers

For each of the remaining 19 paint stirrers, use the heavy duty snips to do the following:

  1. Cut each paint stirrers in half. If necessary, use the tape measure for this step.
  2. For each half, cut into quarters
  3. For each quarter, cut into eighths
  4. Each paint stirrer should produce 8 pieces
  5. After you are done, you should have 152 pieces of wood.

Step 3: Glue 1/8 Pieces Into Blocks

  1. Glue 5 pieces of wood together to form blocks.
  2. You should end up with 30 small blocks
  3. 2 extra pieces of wood will be left over.

Step 4: Start to Build Up Box

  1. Glue 6 half-pieces of paint stirrers to build the base with 4 primary pieces and 2 cross pieces.
  2. Next, glue 4 blocks that were created in the previous step on each corner.
  3. Glue 2 cross half-pieces onto the blocks.
  4. Once again, glue 4 blocks onto each corner.
  5. Now, glue 2 more cross pieces, 90 degrees opposite to the cross pieces glued on the previous level.
  6. Repeat until the box is half finished.

Step 5: Finish Building Box

  1. Keep repeating until all blocks and cross pieces are used.
  2. You will end up with 2 extra blocks and 1 cross piece.
  3. After these are used, they will make one side higher than the other at the end.

Step 6: Completed Box

  1. Completed box. One side should be higher than the other.
  2. Optional: add extra glue to each side to reinforce the joints.
