Introduction: Building a Snowman

Building a snowman is a fun activity for children, families, or friends to get past the gloom of winter and can provide a nice decoration for your yard. These instructions will help you build a traditional snowman in no more than 30 minutes. However these instructions will be displayed by Play-Doh and is scaled down roughly to a ratio of 1 to 15.

Materials needed

  • Yard or field of snow (needs to be packable in that it sticks together)
  • 2 Sticks (length and shape depends on desired length and shape of arms)
  • Carrot
  • 7 buttons or pebbles
  • Scarf
  • Hat

Note: Snow is cold. Wear gloves when touching snow and building a snowman.

Step 1: Pack Snow Into a Ball With Your Hands.

Make sure that the snow is not too fluffy or icy and does not fall apart but holds together.

Step 2: Roll Snowball on Ground to Collect Snow and Form a Large Ball for the Base of the Snowman.

While rolling snowball around pack the ball with hands to keep a spherical shape. Roll until base is 2-3 feet in diameter.

Step 3: Roll a Second Snowball on Ground to Form the Body of the Snowman.

Roll snowball until 1.5-2.5 feet in diameter.

Step 4: Lift and Place Second Snowball on the Base.

Step 5: Pack Snow Between Base and Second Snowball to Make Sure They Stick Together.

Step 6: Roll a Third Snowball on Ground to Form the Head of the Snowman.

Roll third snowball until 1-2 feet in diameter.

Step 7: Place Third Snowball on Top of Second Snowball.

Step 8: Pack Snow Between Second and Third Snowballs to Make Sure They Stick Together.

Step 9: Stick Carrot in Middle of Top Snowball (head).

Step 10: Place Two Buttons or Pebbles Above Carrot for Eyes.

Step 11: Place Rest of Buttons or Pebbles in Shape of Smile Below Carrot for Mouth.

Step 12: Place Hat on Top.

Step 13: Place One Stick on Each Side of Second Snowball.

Step 14: Wrap Scarf Around Head Above Second Snowball.

Congratulations, you now have a complete traditional snowman to liven up and decorate your yard! He will stay in good shape for a couple of days depending on the weather, so take some pictures with him!
