Built-in Vertical/Horizontal Remote Stand

Finding the TV remote can sometimes be a daunting task. It's even harder when you have a remote that is tiny, slick, and prone to falling between the cracks in the couch like the remote that comes with the AppleTV. I created a small, removable modification to the remote that not only allows you the stand the remote vertically or horizontally, but also provides rubberized protrusions that prevent the remote from sliding in between the couch cushions.

Step 1: Collect the Materials

All that is needed for this project is your remote and single 8-oz packet of Sugru moldable rubber. You can use any color you want!

Step 2: Create the Base

In order to create the base for the remote to stand on, take a small amount of Sugru (about 1/4 to 1/2 of a packet) and mold it onto the bottom of the remote as shown in the images. You'll want to make sure that the Sugru is attached to both the bottom and back surfaces of the remote. Try to make the bottom of the molded piece as flat and level as possible. While molding, it can help to hold the remote vertically to see how the remote will stand when the Sugru cures; keep in mind that it is soft and flexible at first, and will not stand on its own.

Step 3: Create the Top Foot

Using part of the remaining Sugru (or a different color, if you want), mold another piece onto the top-back part of the remote. This will keep the remote level when placed horizontally on a coffee table or desk. When molding, constantly check to see if the remote will be level when laid down. Once you finish this piece, flip the remote on its face and let the Sugru cure for 24 hours.
