Intro: C Is for Christmas Wreath - Made of Book Pages

My hubby would say that is a bad thing... but then again he has the Beastie boys song "She's Craft" as my ring ton on his phone and he always does the shifty eyes when he talks with someone about my creativeness. LOL.

I thought I would share this easy and CHEAP way to decorate for the holidays. I spent less then $5 on this entire project.

Supplies:
1 - book (preferably paper back and one you wont read again) with aged pages
2 - small branches from a tree
3 - yards (give or take depending on the size of the next item) of yarn
1 - large 12" letter, number or symbol... either chipboard, cardboard or foam core
1 - wire or straw wreath base (if using straw you will need a piece of fabric to wrap around it till it is covered)
1 - hot glue gun and glue
1 - sheet of printable transparency
3 - clear ornaments
3-4 - public domain images from the internet
3 - glittered wire floral curls
1 - yard of ribbon
2 - yards or so of gold thread
Brown ink pad
Bronze and Gold Ritzy Ditzy Glitz

STEP 1: Step 1 & 2

STEP 1 - Ink all outer edges of the book pages in brown.
STEP 2 – Rip pages gently from binding and ink remaining last side of pages.

STEP 2: Step 3

STEP 3- Roll all pages need into a cone shape with one corner being the point adhere closed with glue dots.

STEP 3: Step 4 & 5

STEP 4 – If using a straw wreath, wrap it in a light colored fabric strips, securing fabric with hot glue.

STEP 5 - Use hot glue gun to adhere cones to wreath base. Start with back row first finishing with the front row.

STEP 4: Step 6, 7 & 8

STEP 6 – Mist edges of cones with a metallic misting spray and let dry.

STEP 7 – Wrap red yarn (or desired color) around large chipboard letter and secure it with hot glue.

STEP 8 - Tie yarn into a series of knots to create berries. Hot glue the berries onto the twigs.

STEP 5: Step 9

STEP 9 – Print desired images onto transparency paper in the correct size to fit into the plastic ornaments. Color if needed, cut out and roll to insert into plastic ornament.

STEP 6: Step 10

STEP 10 – Glue ribbon under one page cone on the front layer of the wreath. Weave above and under pages all around the wreath, repeat with gold thread if desired.Here you can see the red ribbon doing this.

STEP 7: Step 11

STEP 11 - Find one blank page in your book, remove it and print your journaling onto the book page. Mist it with your metallic mist and let dry.

STEP 8: Step 12 & 13

STEP 12 – Assembly. Arrange all items to achieve desired look and hot glue into place.

STEP 13 – HOW TO HANG IT! Cut a piece of yarn 1 1/2 “ft long. Fold in half and knot the two cut edges together. You now should have a loop of yarn. Tie it at the top of your wreath around the straw base. This is how you will hang the wreath, make sure it is not visible when it is on the wall.

Love this project! Just make sure you check the subject matter of you book first. A few months ago I was making paper flowers for my sister's wedding. I realized after I cut out a few pages to start making the petals that the book was about very graphic battles of WW2. Needless to say I had to find a new book to use.

This is a brilliant idea! I made one this morning for our shop window...We are having an upcycled Christmas window this year. As we are a charity shop, we have no budget for display, but plenty of volunteer staff, so I set them to work. I made ours double sided so it can hang in the window and twist round....All that from one book that was going to go to the rag man anyway...Now I just need to find something to do with all the clothes we can't sell as they are damaged in some way. Ideas anyone?

i am making this out of christmas carol sheet music because my parents said no to book pages. it still works, so dont worry if you cant use book pages.

It is very pretty, and I will admit that I am not a fan of destroying books.......but I guess this wouldn't really make the same impression using another source of paper, and at least you not 'burning' the books because of all the 'bad stuff tainting our childrens minds' that you found inside of them.

It is better then throwing them out. I made sure it was a well read book and it gave it's best to society and this one was already missing a few pages. Now everyone can enjoy it. Just in a different way.

lovely! I was so mad at my 3 year old for ripping up some books yesterday... now I can do something with the pages.

I think it would look great in a smaller version in a kids room with illustrations on it.
