Camp Light / Bucket Light

Intro: Camp Light / Bucket Light

A great camp light for campground camping made from a cheap 5 gallon bucket. Camp light is mounted on a 8 foot PVC pole.

STEP 1:

You will need bucket with a lid, a fixture mount, a fixture cover and attaching bolts, a light fixture with bulb.

STEP 2:

Attach the fixture mounting to the underside of the lid using 2 small bolts,(continue with next step)

STEP 3:

At the same time attach the fixture cover on the outside; this gives you something to anchor the light fixture to.

STEP 4:

Wire a short cord to the light fixture(I repurposed an old computer power cord - prefect length).

STEP 5:

Feed the cord into a hole made in the bottom of the bucket

STEP 6:

STEP 7:

To mount the bucket on a 1 1/4 PVC pipe I made a female receiver using a plastic quart bottle and Plaster of Paris - I would recommend Auto body filler. I placed a short piece of pipe at the top of receiver to stop of pole from going all the way through. Using  screws I attached the receiver to the bottom of the bucket after making a hole in the bottom. Note:The square hole is for the power cord.

STEP 8:

Hope you enjoy building and using the Bucket light on your next camping trip.

I would assume this is for a campground with AC power. For unpowered adventures, this use of a plastic water jug and headlight looks ideal: https://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Outdoor-Light/
I don't know where you camp, but most camp sites don't have A/C power.
