Introduction: Campfire (or Oven) Potatoes- Cubed Potatoes in a Bath of Butter, Salt, and Pepper

Do you need a meal to take on your next camping trip? Or do you need an excuse to eat melted butter? Campfire potatoes are simple to make and only require a few ingredients (easy enough to fit into a cooler). Campfire potatoes can be cooked in an oven or over a campfire. Either way you'll end up with a decadent meal that'll make your mouth water for more.

Step 1: Ingredients and Supplies

Before you begin you need to gather your ingredients and supplies. Find 1-2 potatoes per person, salt, pepper, and a stick of butter. Also collect a sharp knife, cutting board, aluminum foil, a baking sheet, and an oven.

Step 2: Prepare Your Potatoes

First, wash your potatoes and cut off any bad spots they might have. You can also peel the potatoes if you want, but I think the skin is delicious. If you are using an oven, preheat it to 400° F.

Step 3: Cube Your Potatoes

Next, slice each potato into small cubes. This will help get every part of the potato buttery and seasoned. Rip off a medium piece of aluminum foil and rub it with butter. Dump your potatoes in the middle and spread them out evenly.

Step 4: Butter and Season Your Potatoes

Time to give your potatoes some butter and seasoning. Sprinkle the desired amount of salt and pepper onto the cubed potatoes. Cut a square of butter and place it in the middle of the potatoes. Next, fold the corners of the aluminum foil in around the potatoes and crumple together. If you are cooking the potatoes in an oven, cook them at 400°F for about an hour and a half or until soft on the inside. Check them after an hour to prevent burning. If you are cooking the potatoes on a campfire you could nestle them in the coals of an extinguished fire, or put them on a rack above the fire. Check constantly to prevent burning, especially with the coal method.

Step 5: Enjoy!

When the potatoes are done, remove them from the oven or campfire and let them cool a few minutes. Carefully open the foil. Walaa! Enjoy your scrumptious campfire (or oven) potatoes. Now that you know how to successfully make campfire potatoes you can experiment with them by adding different seasonings and varying amounts of butter (in my opinion, the more, the better). Enjoy!
