Introduction: Candy Crush Color Bomb Rings

If you have been addicted to the smartphone game Candy Crush Saga as much as I have, then you're going to love this craft inspired by one of the most powerful icons from the game: the Color Bomb. These Color Bomb rings were inspired by a craft originally created by Pattie Wilkinson from I Love To Create. Thanks a lot, Pattie! For her original project, she used round wooden beads. However, I wanted to kind of take it up a notch and use oven-bake clay for my take on this color masterpiece! All you need is 15 minutes of baking, and less than that to construct your rings with glue and paint!

Step 1: Materials

Here's what you'll need to make my take on the color bomb ring project...

  • one 2 oz block of brown oven-bake clay (I used Sculpey III in Hazelnut)
  • 6 colors of 3D scribble paint: red / blue / white / pink / yellow / green
  • ring blanks (I bought mine from Joann's)
  • glue (you can glue jewelry glue, a hot glue gun or E6000; I am using E6000)
  • tape
  • paper plate

P.S. I added a hot glue gun, just so that you can decide if you want to use it for your own color bomb rings. Not necessarily, but that's just an option for you!

Step 2: Roll Your Balls of Clay

To begin, you're going to see the clay that has been sliced off a little into 4 sections. You're going to break up all 4 of those sections and roll them into 4 balls.

Step 3: Make an Imprint

Next, you're going to take a ring blank and press it down gently onto the ball of clay so that it leaves off an imprint. This will make it easy for you to glue the ball directly onto the exact same spot on your ring blank.

Step 4: Bake the Balls of Clay

Now, arrange your balls on a baking sheet covered with aluminum foil and pop them in the oven and bake according to the clay's baking time and temperature. My Sculpey III clay bakes at 275 degrees for 15 minutes. Once time's up, put on your oven mitts and take it out of the oven to let them cool off for a few minutes.

Step 5: Glue

Once the balls have cooled off, glue them onto your ring blanks. I bought a package of 8 ring blanks, so this project would make about 8 color bomb rings. Here, I'm just making 4 of them. Also, again, I am using E6000 industrial strength glue.

Step 6: Add Color Dots

Now, here comes the fun part! Take your 3D scribble paints and add colorful dots to the color bomb base. Add a variety of dots in both big and small! Remember that the iconic colors for the color bomb are red, blue, green, white, pink, and yellow!

Step 7: Set to Dry

Now, this is a really smart tip that I have learned from Pattie when making these color bomb rings. Tape the rings to a paper plate, so that while the paint dries, the ring will stand upright.

Step 8: Wear on Your Finger

Once the paint is dry, you're ready to wear it in style! With this fun and colorful project inspired by one of the most popular smartphone games ever, I'm pretty sure that you will "Sugar Crush" this big deal!
