Car Polishing (Mother's Polishing Tool Made Cheap)

I have a very helpful and useful hack for anyone who wants to polish things such as car rims, grilles, exhaust tips, metal, and other materials and items. This hack is a cheaper remake of the Mother's Powerball, and will save you $21 which can go into more important things in our lives. This polishing tool hack is very simple to make (appox. 5 mins max.) and will produce phenomenal results.

Step 1: Materials

There are only 4 materials needed to create and do this project/hack.

Hacksaw: You can use anything that can cut the sponge brush, like a Dremel or even scissors.

Polishing Compound: I'm using Mother's Mag and Metal Polish but just use any polishing compounds that meet your needs (Ex. Chrome, metal, silver, etc.)

Dishwasher Sponge Brush: You can pick up the great quality dishwashing sponge brush used in this Instructable at any Dollar Tree for only a buck.

Drill: Any is fine. Just make sure it has an adjustable drill bit holder.

In all, the materials costed me $1 because I already had the tools needed. I'm sure most people will have at least half of the materials lying around somewhere.

Step 2: Cut the Sponge Brush and Put It Into the Drill

Take that hacksaw and put it to work! (Not really...) So just cut the sponge brush right when the shaft begins to form into the handle. Check the pictures if you need a reference of where to cut. After it is cut, slide the shortened brush into the drill and tighten it. TA DA!!!! You're done with the tool hack part. :)

Step 3: Polishing Time!!!

Now you need some elbow grease and in the end it is totally worth it! Each step will correspond with each picture, so Step 1 is with the first picture and so on. B.T.W. these steps are only for the polishing compound I am using. If you are using a different compound, follow its instructions to get the best results.

Step 1: Rub the polish onto the object getting polished to get a very thin layer going.

Step 2: Get your newly made polishing ball and use the drill to spin that sucker and rub the polish into the object. You should rub it in for about 20 seconds for each spot for the best results. Also get it to be somewhat like picture 4 and 5 so it resembles a light haze.

Step 3: After doing that, take a soft cloth (I'm using microfiber) and buff and remove the remainder of the polish until it shines!

Step 4: Finished!
