Introduction: Cardboard Robot Hand (prototype)

This project is the prototype for a bigger project that I will make out of either steel aluminium or wood... But for now its still a pretty cool project for the cardboard competition.

Step 1: Step 1: Materials

For this project you will need:

A large sheet of cardboard

a length of string or twine

a straw

a hot glue gun

and a Stanley knife

Step 2: Step 2 Cutting Fingers

cut four strips of cardboard 20cm long by 2.5cm wide then cut another 20cm by 3cm for the thumb

mark these in segments of 5cm (these will be the finger joints)

Step 3: Step 3 Arm and Armstraps

now cut four pieces of cardboard

one 8 by 30 cm (arm piece)

one 8 by 25 (other arm piece)

one 4 by 25 cm (wrist strap)

and one 2.5 by 25 cm (hand strap)

Step 4: Step 4 Glue It Together

glue the three fingers to the 8 by 30cm piece and then the thumb at an angle of about 45 degrees (or you can put it at a different angle for a better grip but I find that 45 degrees works best with the strings) then glue the piece of 8 by 25 on top of the fingers. Now you will have 5cm of the first piece of cardboard sticking out at the bottom, this is to glue the armband (4 by 25 cm) too

Step 5: Step 5 the Joints

make small folds on each of the lines on the fingers (this is so the cardboard bends where it is supposed to)

now cut the straw in to 16 segments of one cm then glue each of these segments to an individual section of the fingers and thumb

now thread your string through these segments of straw and tie it off at the fingertip then glue it to the fingertip

repeat for all the fingers and then tie loops in the end

Step 6: Step 6 Arm Brace / Grip

glue the wrist strap to the bottom 5 cm of the arm and the hand strap at an angle that fits your hand now put your fingers through the loops and you are done!
