Introduction: Castles & Catapults Game

Enter the world of castles, catapults, knights and dragons! Just ask yourself one thing, can I survive?

Step 1: The Battlefield Layout

Picture is worth a thousand words!

  • Arrange castles so they are close enough that they are in range of the catapults but far enough to make it a challenge.
  • The player who knocks down more of the opponents knights, dragons, horsemen, etc., gets more points and wins.
  • Time to have some fun! Let get started building our castles.

Step 2: Material and Tool List for Castle Build

Primary Material List:

  • 2 small to medium sized cardboard boxes
  • 2+ cardboard cylinder center cores from paper towels or wrapping paper.
  • 100+ popsicle sticks

Optional Materials:

  • Corks or other design elements
  • wood dowels for flag poles and other structures
Tools:
  • Scissors
  • Utility knife
  • Glue gun & glue sticks

Note: No need to finish your castle to have your first battle game. We have had our castles over a year and they just keep growing. We add towers and other chambers/boxes to castles when ever we are in a building creative mood.

Step 3: Build Your Castle

Caution!!! Caution!!! Caution!!!

  • Use low temperature glue guns when working with children. Even low temperature glue guns can cause bad burns. Always supervise children when working with glue guns.
  • Scissors and utility knives should be operated by adults only as sever injuries could occur from misusing.
  • Glue cardboard cylinder from paper towels to corners of boxes if towers are desired. Cut out 1/4 pie shaped slice from cylinder the height of the box and hot glue cylinder (tower) to corner.
  • Glue cardboard cylinders to sides of box by cutting out 1/2 pie shaped slice from cylinder the height of the box and hot glue to side of box.
  • Glue popsicle sticks to sides of boxes, towers to create an authentic look.
  • Cut in windows, doors and draw bridges in main castle body and towers if desired.

Its your Castle or Frontier Fort. Its your build. Use your imagination and build it anyway you like. Be Creative and have fun with it.

Step 4: Catapult and Plastic Action Figures

Build or Purchase Your Catapult

  • A quick search on Google, Instructable or other DIY websites will provide many build options.
  • Personally we like plastic ones we purchased online as they are durable, reliable for combat and come with projectiles.
  • Also, Nerf guns provide a fun alternative to catapults and most kids already have several.

  • 10 plastic Knights, Army men, Pirates or whatever you have in the toy box to start with. Five for each castle. You can always add more.

Step 5: Make Your Own Game Rules and Write Them Down.

How to win at "Catapult Wars"

  • Take turns or rapid fire as fast as you can shooting projectiles at your opponents castle.
  • We like to give points for projectiles landing and staying inside of your opponents castle.
  • More points for knocking down plastic figures on, in and around your castle.
  • Usually we play to 100. The first player reaching a 100 points for landing projectiles into the opponents castle and knocking down the opponents plastic figures WINS!

Its your game, make up the rules anyway you like. Give different points for different figures. Be creative.
