Certainly nice, but you can also build a counter-weight-system using a cord, some hooks and a tiny bottle with enough water as counter-weight to close the door and few enough for the cat to open the door.
I guess, you're quite sensible, but if I had your construction in my home, I'd last not more than a week until someone slams the so-blocked door and breaks both the door and the construction.

Now I'm trying to figure out how to make one without having to drill in the door for my friends who are renting.
