Introduction: Cemetery Archway Entrance
Just like my Faux Fireplace, I also saw something out at a store like this, and this time it was very well crafted, but way more money than I was wanting to spend, so I figured I would make my own. Please keep in mind that this is made out of cardboard, so I would not suggest having it outside if it is raining.
Step 1: Step 1: Assembly
Ok, So again, using the same technique that I made my Faux Fireplace with, I used my leftover priority shipping boxes. This time since the boxes were bigger and a bit heavier, I had to put a couple of screws/bolts between each one to keep them together better.
Step 2: Step 2: Bonding Them Together
Using spray foam insulation, spray between the boxes. Let this dry, then scrape down the excess foam.
Step 3: Step 3: Paint
For the first coat, I used just plain gray spray paint. For the second coat, I used the fleckstone spray paint to cover the whole thing. This makes it look like real brick.
Step 4: Step 4: Making the Cemetary Arch
I went to Hobby Lobby and bought a long flexible piece of wood, and some foam letters. I hot glued the letters to the wood, and then bent the wood into an arch. I used tape from one end of the wood to the other to temporarily hold it into an arch. To keep the letters together at the bottoms, I used toothpicks to join them (This is why foam letters work best!) Then you spray the entire thing black.
Step 5: Step 5: Adding Decor, and Adding It to Your Halloween Scene
I added spider webs to the entire thing, and bought black birds and 2 stone gargoyles from the dollar store to make it look better. Then just add to your Halloween Scene, and enjoy!!

How did you keep the archway from blowing over in the wind?

I am struggling to find the foam letters. What height did you use? I'm thinking 4-6"...
Answer 1 year ago
I got them at Hobby Lobby. And yes they were about 6” tall.

I found the balsa strips at Hobby Lobby but they are only 36". Yours seems longer than that... or else your foam letters are really small. Is the correct size? Did you attach multiple strips? Thank you! This is amazing and I want to make it with my kids!

I went to all of the Home Depots in my city and they all said they have never seen any wood strips like the one in the pictures. Can anyone tell me what department it is in.

First, I’m sorry I never got notified of your question. I bought them at Hobby Lobby.

I got the wood from Hobby lobby. I believe it is called Balsa. It is a straight piece of regular brown wood.... It's just very flexible, and that is how I arched it. If all you have is Home Depot, maybe try a firing strip. The reason mine is black is because I spray painted it.

i cant find these wood flexible sticks do you have a link? also does anyone know if i put bricks on the bottom box it will stay up?

Since the boxes are all closed all the way around, I cut a hole in the center on the bottom to go through the 2 bottom boxes and then put a long wooden stake 1/2 in the boxes, 1/2 in the ground.

This is awesome! Such a great idea. Just a quick question. How did you get it to stay up?

Sorry. Just saw this message. I put a hole up the middle to about 1/2 way an stuck a piece of wood with about 3 feet to go in the ground. One year instead of the wood I used an old metal pool pole.

How wonderful....
We are having a fright fest for school aged kids 4th-9thgrade, including a hay ride that our oldest kids senior's and graduated? and their friends are going to be hiding in the woods and doing different creepy things/sounds. We had set up a cleared area close to the road, as a cemetery, so this project will make it so GrAnD!! Our cemetery has strobe lights, smoke, older kids dressed as zombies! It is going to be so much fun!
Thank You for sharing!!
If I can get all the other projects done, I'd like to make 2, one much larger with our last name to go over 3/4 mile long drive way!!
Fright fest is always a huge hit in our small town of 5,000, so the more ideas the better! Expecting at the least 60 kids this year/next weekend :)

Aaaaah! It's like you read my mind! I have had an image of an arch almost exactly like this one lurking in the back of my mind for years. I kept saying I was going to make one. But then I put it off.
I would like to make mine out of something other than cardboard, since it almost always rains and/or snows on Halloween here. So part of the problem has always been cost. The other part is that I always over complicate things and end up not having enough time.
This is a good example of how a simple design that is put together very quickly can turn out looking awesome. Great job! :0)

You're welcome. :)
Looking back at my comment, I realized I said that it was "put together very quickly". I should not have assumed that, since I don't know how long it took you to complete it. I was just thinking about it from my perspective. I tend to get bogged down and take forever to get even the easiest projects done. It has always amazed me how quickly other people can do things. And reading Instructables like this one is helping me to learn how to focus and concentrate better to get things done.
If I stop reading Instructables long enough to go and do something. ;0)
