Intro: Chalkboard Mugs

Do your coffee mugs need room for a message or maybe a little drawing? Then maybe you want to try a chalkboard mug. It's easy to do and you can change the message as much as you want.

STEP 1: What You Need

Not too much just this:
  • mug
  • Krylon Chalkboard spray paint
  • masking tape

STEP 2: Mask Off the Mug

Take the tape and apply it wherever you don't want the paint to go. So here I'm going for a basic rectangle just to the right of the handle.

STEP 3: Paint!

With the mug properly prepared, take it to a well ventilated area and spray it with the chalkboard spray paint. Apply 2-3 coats with at least 5 minutes between coats.

When it's all done you can remove the masking tape, but be sure to not use any chalk on it for at least 24 hours.

STEP 4: Draw!

And that's it. Super easy to make and now you have an excuse to doodle in the morning. Enjoy!

I would have to assume it's a "hand wash" only after this?
With the Krylon chalkboard spray, yes. Most are. There are some chalkboard enamels that you can bake onto the cup that will make it dishwasher safe however.
I would spray the whole thing, honestly.
Hehe, let's see that mug turned around... ;-)
It's nothing - I just happen to know what mug Fungus drinks from...
