Introduction: Chess Board Key Holder & Organiser
This was a broken down chess board with loose chess pieces that my 10-year-old son has ignored for the last 2 years. Being the hoarder that I am, I refuse to throw things away with the intention of recycling or creating something new out of them. So with this ignored toy, I came up with an idea of turning it into an organiser, using the remaining chess pieces as key holders.
The make of a chess board is actually quite versatile as you can also use it as a compartment for medicine, mail, tools and whatnot depending on the size of the chessboard.
Step 1: MATERIALS
chess board (7"X13 1/2" , or bigger if you want a medical kit compartment)
glue (for repair, if necessary)
rubber bands 4pcs
flathead screws 6pcs
hook screw 4 pcs
chess pieces (I chose 6 pieces in this case, but you can add more if preferred)
Step 2: Disassemble the Chess Board
Unscrew the hinges.
Put rubber bands in the center of the half board, space them accordingly.
Cut edges of the board for the band crevice. This will hold the band in place.
Step 3: Install Screws
Using the other half of the board, install the screws, according to your preferred arrangement of the chess pieces. What I've done is to use hook screws with the chess pieces for double-holding purposes.
Step 4: Reassemble the Board
Step 5: Mount on the Wall (you Can Use Angle Brackets).
Step 6: Voila!

Great project idea. The first picture is good, but I think it could be slightly better.
I recommend adding a picture from a slight angle with the board closed, should show off the keys are hanging off the chess pieces nicely.

this is a great idea for those who have kids and dont know what to do with their toys. as a parent myself, it's a shame to throw toys away. this is a fabulous and practical way, so hold on to that junk!!! =)
