Introduction: Chess Is Cool I Guess (Oh Hey That Rhymed)

2 player chess? Lame.

Now, 4 player chess? That's cool.

Here's an Instructable on how to make a rainbow chess board. I guess.

Step 1: Step 1

Obtain a wooden board and cut it into a 14 x 14 inch plank.

Step 2: Step 2

Cut shallow grooves into the board. There must be 196 squares, approximately one inch wide.

Step 3: Step 3

Obtain a wooden rod with a diameter of .75 inches.

Cut it into 64 disks. Each disk should be .25 inches thick. Be careful.

Step 4: Step 4

Obtain paints of your choice, acrylic paint generally works best, and paint each set of chess disks a different color of your choice. Paint the nine squares in each of the four corners of the board a separate color. These 36 corner squares will not be used in the game. Paint every other square on the main game board a color of the rainbow; the squares in between these colored squares will be colored either black, white, or any other color of the like. Please be consistent with this color.

Step 5: Step 5

Wait for the paint to dry. Once it is dry, either draw or paint symbols of your choice for the six chess pieces ( eight pawns, two bishops, two rooks, two knights, one queen, one king).

Step 6: Step 6

Once the symbols have dried, apply layers of wood finisher to your liking (do NOT breathe in the fumes from the finisher!) and allow for it time to dry. Once the finisher has dried, your rainbow, four player chess board is complete and ready for use. Have fun!
