Introduction: Chocolate Toffles
Milk chocolate. Toffee. Waffles. Need I say anymore?? I totally haven't eaten handfuls already! Who's on a sugar high? Not me...
These are honestly the perfect snack, chocolaty, crispy, and with a bit of butter crunch toffee thrown in, and you won't believe that they're super easy to make :)
Step 1: Make Your Toffee
You will need:
- 1/2 cup Unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup Brown sugar
- 1/8 cup Water
1. Heat all the ingredients on low heat until you hit 300°F, the mixture should be a thick and foamy light brown color.
2. Line a baking sheet with a piece of greased parchment, and pour the toffee mixture onto the sheet
3. Let your toffee cool until brittle and hardened.
Step 2: Make Your Mini Waffle Chips
Depending on the size of the waffle chips that you will make, this recipe made about 50 quarter sized waffle chips.
You will need:
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 3 tbsp butter, melted
- 1/4 tbsp vanilla
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 egg
1. Combine everything until it is a dough like consistency.
2. Preheat your waffle (cone or pizzelle) iron
3. Make small marble sized balls of dough and cook them on your iron for about 1 min to 1 min 45 secs. Or until golden brown. This WILL take a couple tries unless your intuition is good.
Step 3: Melt Some Chocolate
You will need:
- 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup of any cooking oil
- Melt the ingredients down on a double broiler until runny and smooth
Step 4: Assembling Your Toffles!
Take your brittle toffee, after having chilled for about 1-2 hours (faster in the fridge), break some off and put it in a Ziploc bag. Smash it gently with a rolling pin until it crumbles into small sprinkles
Spread your waffle chips, and top each with a dollop of chocolate and sprinkle on a pinch of toffee per waffle.
These can be packaged in cute jars as a gift or selfishly hoarded and eaten alone
