I play a game called Clash of Clans and thought I'd like to have a bash a making a golem troop costume.

Village name: BlanTheGenius
Clan name: Suffolk slayers

Clash of Clans is the hit army strategy game where you

Step 1: Materials

EVA foam mats (I used about 13 (2ft x 2ft sheets) but this may vary dependent on your body size)
Random size pieces of foam off cuts (these will be spray glued on the inside of the body parts to help clamp your limbs, arms legs etc.)
Scissors
Craft knife
Ruler
Marker pen
Wallpaper backing paper (or any roll of paper to make templates from)
Empty boxes (I had a few empty drinks boxes, also great for using as templates to create legs, thighs and upper arm pieces)
Hot wire cutting machine (optional – to give an angled edge to foam pieces, can use Craft knife)
Hot glue gun
Glue sticks
Heavy duty foam spray glue
Velcro
Grey paint (I just used under coat)
Paint brush (any size I used a 1 inch brush)
Sandpaper (100 grit)
Protective goggles
Purple spray paint
Pink adhesive film
Trousers (dark grey or black)
Long sleeve t-shirt / hoody (dark grey or black)

Step 2: Feet

Materials used:
Wallpaper backing paper
Marker pen
Scissors
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Craft knife
Ruler
Sand paper
Paint

Draw a rectangle shape around one of your trainers or shoes make sure it's about 10mm bigger so that you get an overlap. (This will be the top piece).

The hole for your foot 20mm from back edge I drew a semicircle and then cut 3 slits about a further 50mm, (but this may vary dependent upon foot size).

Draw the four side pieces. I followed the edges of the top piece and made then about 55mm high.

Cut the templates out place on top of a EVA foam mat, mark them out with your marker pen and cut with craft knife.

Then glue together using hot glue gun.

Sand down the top edges to make rounded.

Lightly paint or dry brush paint.

Do the same for the other foot.

Step 3: Lower Legs

Materials used:
Wallpaper backing paper
Marker pen
Scissors
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Hot wire cutting machine (Optional)
Craft knife
Ruler
Sand paper
Paint

Roughly measure from just below your knee down to the top of your foot and mark a vertical line on a piece of wallpaper backing paper (mine measured 370mm yours may differ)

Using that vertical line as your center draw a shin piece like a shin-guard shape, then make a further 3 shapes but make these slightly wider.

Cut the templates out place on top of a EVA foam mat, mark them out with your marker pen and cut with craft knife.

PLEASE NOTE:I used a hot wire cutting machine to create a 45 degree angled edge on both of the longest edges but found that I didn't really need to, so this bit is optional.

Then glue together using hot glue gun.

Sand down the top edges to make rounded.

Lightly paint or dry brush paint.

Step 4: Upper Legs / Thighs

Materials used:
Wallpaper backing paper
Marker pen
Scissors
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Hot wire cutting machine (Optional)
Craft knife
Ruler
Sand paper
Paint

Roughly measure from just above your knee up to the top of your leg but remember to leave about a 60mm gap at the top of your leg to allow for movement and mark a vertical line on a piece of wallpaper backing paper (mine measured 200mm yours may differ)

Using that vertical line as your center draw a box shape, then make a further 3 shapes but make these slightly wider. (You could also use an empty box for a guide, I used an old drinks box)

Cut the templates out place on top of a EVA foam mat, mark them out with your marker pen and cut with craft knife.

PLEASE NOTE:I used a hot wire cutting machine to create a 45 degree angled edge on both of the longest edges but found that I didn't really need to, so this bit is optional.

Then glue together using hot glue gun.

Sand down the top edges to make rounded.

Lightly paint or dry brush paint.

Step 5: Lower Arms / Forearms

Materials used:
Wallpaper backing paper
Marker pen
Scissors
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Hot wire cutting machine (Optional)
Craft knife
Ruler
Sand paper
Paint

For this I used an empty 24 can drinks box as my template, then created a template from that (mine measured 230mm high x 400mm long slightly angled too so it tapers, small at the front. Yours may differ in dimensions)

Cut the templates out place on top of a EVA foam mat, mark them out with your marker pen and cut with craft knife.

PLEASE NOTE:I used a hot wire cutting machine to create a 45 degree angled edge on both of the longest edges but found that I didn't really need to, so this bit is optional.

Then glue together using hot glue gun.

Sand down the top edges to make rounded.

Lightly paint or dry brush paint.

Do the same for the other lower arm.

Step 6: Knuckles

Materials used:
Wallpaper backing paper
Marker pen
Scissors
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Hot wire cutting machine (Optional)
Craft knife
Ruler
Sand paper
Paint

Box off the front end of your tapered end of the lower arm then measure the width (mine measured 200mm wide yours may differ)

Draw two pieces to form the knuckle piece 200mm wide (tapered end lower arm width) x 70mm high.

Cut the templates out place on top of a EVA foam mat, mark them out with your marker pen and cut with craft knife.

Then glue together using hot glue gun.

Sand down the top edges to make rounded.

Lightly paint or dry brush paint.

Repeat process for the other knuckle.

Step 7: Fingers

Materials used:
Wallpaper backing paper
Marker pen
Scissors
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Hot wire cutting machine (Optional)
Craft knife
Ruler
Sand paper
Paint

Measure the width of the knuckle (mine measured 200mm wide yours may differ) half this number and subtract a further 10mm this is to allow for a gap between the fingers.

This is the tricky part, please see images for further information.

PLEASE NOTE:My fingers are slightly tapered too.

Cut the templates out place on top of a EVA foam mat, mark them out with your marker pen and cut with craft knife.

Then glue together using hot glue gun.

Sand down the top edges to make rounded.

Lightly paint or dry brush paint.

Repeat process for the other fingers.

Step 8: Thumbs

Materials used:
Wallpaper backing paper
Marker pen
Scissors
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Hot wire cutting machine (Optional)
Craft knife
Ruler
Sand paper
Paint

Roughly draw both bottom and top thumb shapes (mine measured 190mm long x 70mm wide yours may differ).

And now draw the two side pieces to fit (mine measured 80mm high x 190mm long)

Cut the templates out place on top of a EVA foam mat, mark them out with your marker pen and cut with craft knife.

Then glue together using hot glue gun.

Sand down the top edges to make rounded.

Lightly paint or dry brush paint.

Repeat process for the other thumb.

Step 9: Upper Arms

Another empty drinks box came in handy here. I wrapped it around my arm and found that movement was restricted so I created a cut away piece under the arm area to give me more movement. (Please see images for dimensions, your may differ)

Cut the templates out place on top of a EVA foam mat, mark them out with your marker pen and cut with craft knife.

Then glue together using hot glue gun.

Sand down the top edges to make rounded.

Lightly paint or dry brush paint.

Repeat process for the other upper arm.

Step 10: Body (upper)

Materials used:
Wallpaper backing paper
Marker pen
Scissors
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Hot wire cutting machine (Optional)
Craft knife
Ruler
Sand paper
Paint

I used two whole EVA foam mats to create the body. I made score marks on the reverse of them both to create folds, I also glued the folds once made, then I cut an are for my head to fit through followed by gluing the two piece together on the under side and again on the top of the outside in the should locations. (Please see images for further info.)

Glue a small piece of EVA foam mat to the bottom side of the body on the inside spanning both side pieces. And the opposite side glue Velcro.

Cut the templates out place on top of a EVA foam mat, mark them out with your marker pen and cut with craft knife.

Then glue together using hot glue gun.

Sand down the top edges to make rounded.

Lightly paint or dry brush paint.

Step 11: Body (lower)

Materials used:
Wallpaper backing paper

Hot glue gun and glue sticks

Wearing the upper body part and both thigh parts of the costume measure the distance between the bottom of the body and the top of the thigh. (Mine measured about 270mm, your may differ).

It just so happened that cutting a complete EVA foam mat in half work out well for this part of the costume making both front and back pieces of the lower body.

Following the previously scored fold marks on the upper body sections I scored and folded the lower body pieces to suit. Then hot glued both pieces to the inner of the upper body part.

Lightly paint or dry brush paint.

Step 12: Head

Materials used:
Wallpaper backing paper
Marker pen
Scissors
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Hot wire cutting machine (Optional)
Craft knife
Ruler
Sand paper
Paint

I constructed the head from another empty drinks box then reverse engineered for the template.

The templates ended up in two pieces the upper piece (eyes and top of head and lower jaw piece).

Cut the templates out place on top of a EVA foam mat, mark them out with your marker pen and cut with craft knife.

Then glue together using hot glue gun.

Sand down the top edges to make rounded.

Lightly paint or dry brush paint.

Step 13: Eyes / Goggles

Materials used:
Protective goggles
Spray paint
Pink adhesive film

Very carefully take apart the protective goggles to reveal the lens, grab your pink adhesive film and use as a template cut out the pink adhesive film and stick to the lens. Put goggles back together.

Create a cradle to hold your goggles in position and hot glue them to the head piece.

Mask out the goggles and outer head and use purple spray paint to give the goggles an outlined edge.
