Intro: Playhouse - Fort - Castle - No Adults Allowed!!

Since I was a kid a long long time ago I always had a fascination with building fortes and club houses.  Whether it was out of pillows or cardboard i used whatever was at my disposal.  Now that I have more resources available than just pillows and blankets I decided it was an opportune moment in my life to build a real one for my kids.

I have never built a structure in my life but I started out with 4 4x4 by 16' redwood posts and several bags of quikrete and I was launched past the point of no return.  I scoured the internet and got my general ideas laid out in my head much of the design work I owe to Barbara Butler.  I was consumed for the next several months to building the club house of my dreams.  I have never been so happy in my life building this project.

Total Height 17' Appox
Wood - All Redwood
Tubular Slide
Stainless Steel Firepole
Rock Climbing Wall on the back of the structure
Tire Swing
2 Regular Swings
On secret escape door in the back.

Hi, this looks great, my boys want to build a fort (unfortunately they think it's something I can do during my lunch break!). No blueprint questions, I promise. I’m trying to see by the pic how you anchored the beams. It looks like you poured footings and the beams are anchored to it at the surface?
And are they 4x4 or 6x6 and how long?
Awesome fort btw. I’m looking to build a fort addition like this off my kids wooden swing set.

I am guessing, but I think that corner posts to the fort are 14' (I will measure them tonight). I dug the holes with a post hole digger about 3ft below the ground and put the redwood post in the concrete. It holds up really well even in our high winds in California. I imagine you could anchor them with a post fitting I just never considered it. If you do end up planting them in the ground, I used Henry's roof sealer at the bottom of the posts and made sure there was a gravel base underneath for drainage. The posts are 4 x 4's.
