Intro: Coffee Can Sound System.

How to make your very own coffee can sounds system using only duck tape and a few pocket knifes.

STEP 1: Pulling Apart

So the first step is to remove the original speaker casing.
As you can see I used a flat head screw driver to open it up.

MAKE SURE ITS NOT TURNED ON!!

STEP 2: The Gear

After all that you should be left with just two speakers and the volume control circuit.

STEP 3: Hole Punching

I punched holes in either side of the can where the speakers are going to go. This will ensure that maximum sound will leave the can.
Also punch a hole where the volume knob will go.

STEP 4: Speaker Placement

I placed the speaker at the bottom of the can face out. I folded cardboard and duck taped it together to make a spacer so that the speakers would stay in place. Then I put in the foam from the old speakers to act as a dampener.

STEP 5: Insulation

I cut out some foam and cardboard to as an insulator between the speakers and the circuit board.

STEP 6: Running Cable

Next I cut a hole for the wires to run out of so that the lid could go back on.

STEP 7: Turn on and Listen.

Attach volume knob, mount LED and you have successfully made a coffee can sound system.
Just plug it in and enjoy.

So... you took a couple speakers... and made... another couple speakers?  I understand that you started with a two-cabinet system, and ended with a single-unit system, but wouldn't it have been easier to, say, hot-glue the two original cabinets together and call it done?

But hey, I'm all for taking things apart and putting them back together in a different way, just for the joy of the experience, so if that's the point here, more power to ya!

wat size were the speakers cos they were really sweet. if possible can mitchellcope plz tell me the model name of the speakers

Mate i would love to help you but i have no idea what size they were. They were just some old crappy speakers. sorry.

Hmm.....why would someone do this? Maybe your speakers didn't have that vintage tin-can sound to them.

I did something similar.. using the same speakers as he used as an amp on a 12volt battery. I took a cheap $20 sub (2 speakers) and put them in a round coffee can both in the same can, with a hole in the side. I wired it up to the amp I hacked up with the computer speakers on my battery and I used it to play party boy in school :) LMAO.. I recently took the speaker apart and made them into two tube subs using 4 coffee cans.... two each.. The sweet smell of 400Watts in a can

Yeah it works well and it pumps out allot of sound surprisingly.
