Introduction: Colander Wind Chime

Have you ever wanted a wind chime to spice up your garden? Well this instructable will show how to build one simple wind chime using easy to obtain household objects.

Step 1: Materials and Tools

For this project you only need a few tools and the overall cost should not exceed 20 dollars in the case that you need to buy them. For this project you will need:

  • A colander
  • 6 Metallic Spoons
  • String or Fishing Line
  • Washers

and the tools required will consist of the following:

  • A power drill
  • A knife or scissors
  • A tape measure

Practice caution when using these tools for the project.

Step 2: Cut the Line

Take some line and measure it to between 14-19 inches, and then cut it. Repeat this process five times and vary the length of line for each cut between 14-19 inches. Then take another piece of line measuring 20 inches. You should have 7 pieces of line by the end of this step.

Step 3: Drill a Hole Into Each Spoon

Take 6 spoons and drills holes into the handle of the spoon using the power drill. Be sure to use a small enough drill so that the string can fit through without breaking the spoon. Be mindful of the spoon as you drill because it may spin around, so hold it down while drilling.

Step 4: Tie the Spoons to the Colander

Take a piece of line cut between 14-19 inches and thread it through the hole of a spoon. Take one of the ends of the line and thread it through a hole on the outer most ring of the bottom of the colander. Take the end of the line and thread it through the hole one ring closer to the center of the colander. Repeat this step for each of the spoons. The spoons should hang from the inside of the colander by the end of this step.

Step 5: Tie the Line to Hang the Colander

Take the line that was cut to 20 inches earlier and thread a washer onto the line. Take each end of the lie and thread it through the center hole of the bottom of the colander. On the opposite side, thread another washer onto one end of the line. Tie the ends together.

Step 6: Conclusion

You should now have a complete wind chime with spoon chimes and a line to hang it wherever you want.
