The most part of the time people don’t know what to do with the oil, so they drop it in the sink and finally the oil ends in the ocean creating contamination and killing sea life. In order to, We think in create a soap based on cooking oil that will have a process of saponification. This process is the fusion of Sodium Hydroxide to became a solution amphipathic, in other words reacts with water like Hydrophilic and with other oils (to clean) like Hydrophobic. But now the question is: How can we do to recollect the oil? Well, the other part of project is change the routine to start recycling the oil in a special container (like trash) to can get it more fast.
The objective of this project, first It’s reduce de pollution in the ocean creating a soap to clean, but basically make a mental change in people. Specially in re use the oil but with a good motive and with this we are going to help a part of our planet.

Step 2: Your Materials

For this instructable you will need:

200 g of Sodium hidroxide(pH 6.8 to 7.3)
1 liter of used kitchen oil
aromatic essence
2 liters o water

Step 3: Precautions

We must be careful at the moment of doing this hole process.
It is all about chemical reactions and how them change one sustance into another completely different.

The safety equipment that you will need is:

Latex gloves: at the moment of the Sodium hidroxide with water interaction, it will release an exothermic reaction. You must be careful and not get to close to it.
Lab goggles: For the same reason at the first point, we must avoid the gases generated for that thermical reaction.
Plastic containers: For the soap and the Sodium hidroxide solution.
Decorative containers: For the final result.

Step 4: Let's Start With This!

Filter 1 liter of the recycled oil.
Introduce 1 liter of water in a large plastic or stainless steel container.
Add the caustic soda and stir until it dissolves in the water. You must take caution because the temperature will increase until reaching 80ºC and vapors that will be generated must not be inhaladed, they are toxic.
Let it stand and cool to about 35 ° C and, if you want to add some essence, now will also be the time to do it.
Slowly pour the used cooking oil over the water with the soda and stir the mixture constantly in the same direction (so that it does not cut), for about 30 or 40 minutes, until the mixture starts to thicken during the saponification process.
Dump in molds and let the soap dry for about 30 days.
